After the disappointment of losing at Hebburn last week but bouncing back with a 3-0 victory in midweek at Jarrow , Town are again on their travels at the weekend when they travel to Newcastle to play West Allotment Celtic on their 4G artificial pitch.

"I was hugely disappointed last weekend with our performance at Hebburn but we got the reaction in midweek we wanted when we played Jarrow. We were always in control of the game and played some reality good football, scored 3 good goals, could and should have scored more and kept a clean sheet" manager Darren Trotter remarked. "The good news is the 4G pitch means the game will go ahead barring another big fall of snow and we have a chance to put more points on the board and cement our position as league leaders. I would rather have points in the bag than be playing catch up" he concluded.

There will be changes to the team on Saturday. Mattie Crossen will be on international duty playing for England at St Georges park. "To play for your country is an honour and I'm lucky to be able to enjoy the facilities at the national stadium but I'd rather be playing with the team" was all he would say when asked for a few words. Charles Graham will also be missing as he also is on representative duties for the County Under 18 team, who play Newcastle on Teesside. "It's easy to forget that Charlie is only 16 years old but he's a vital cog in our machine. He's a natural athlete and shows maturity beyond his age. He is concerned because of his recent addition to the squad that he doesn't usually figure in players profiles in match day programmes but I like it that he sneaks in under the radar" the manager commented.

On the plus side Aaron Ramsbottom and Dale Ejgie will be back after missing the midweek game through work. Shaun Hudson and Andrew Shepherd who missed the last game through injury will have pre match fitness tests on the day. Elliott McGlade is still out suspended.

Best wishes
Edwin Hargreaves

After a blank weekend last week because of the weather, and no midweek game this last week, Town are looking forward to a game on Saturday when they travel to play Easington Colliery Welfare..

They travel as league leaders and the mini break will have given players with muscle strains another week of rest and hopefully they will be fit to return. Skipper and centre back Dan Jones and midfielder Andrew Shepherd should be fit to return and both full back Karl Hewitt and midfielder Richie Walker, who both missed the last game are expected back. The lack of games means that Elliot McGlade is still suspended and unavailable. Stephen Cheeseman is also unavailable through a prior notification.

Town have a home league game on Saturday when they entertain Willington, in the first of two home games against the club as they are also due to meet in the Ernest Armstrong cup before the end of the season.

The pitch got badly cut up in the last home game against Alnwick a fortnight ago, and hopefully the ground staff will have been able to work a miracle. Willington are one of the "form" teams in the division and a hard game on Saturday is anticipated.

Player wise Saturday will hopefully see Elliot McGlade complete his suspension as postponements have meant he seems to have been suspended for an eternity. Mattie Crossen will be back from training with England and Richie Walker and Colin Anderson are both expected to be available after missing last week's game.

"The lack of midweek games has meant we have been able to train effectively with our mid-week sessions being more productive and beneficial and I'm looking forward to Saturday to see the performance from the team" manager Darren Trotter remarked

Town lost for the second consecutive time in a home league game when they were beaten on Monday night by Heaton Stannington 2-0 and that came hard on the heels of a 3-2 defeat on Saturday against Whickham. This Saturday sees Town again at home when the visitors are Esh Winning.

Town had led the league table from October until March but now find themselves in 4th position as other teams catch up their backlog of fixtures. There are four league games to play for Town, and the aim must be to win them all and see where that takes us.

Team wise for Saturday Shaun Hudson will miss the game through suspension and potentially Aaron Ramsbottom could also miss the game for the same reason. Richie Walker was injured in midweek but could be back at the weekend. Mattie Crossen was an unused substitute in midweek and he could be in line for a recall along with Stephen Cheeseman who has stitches in a head wound resulting from a stray elbow in the Whickham game.

In addition to the league games Town also have a Ernest Armstrong cup semi final to look forward to on Thursday 3rd May KO 7.45pm at the Calvert Stadium against Chester-le-Street.
