With reference to current circumstances concerning the club and Filtrona Park, whereby it is widely reported that the final game of the season tomorrow April 28th versus Penrith, may well be the final match for the club at the ground, it is now the case that an opportunity has emerged for the club to conclude a sale for its purchase......Suffice to state that the club has definite and confirmed pledges for a substantial sum of money, which is though insufficient as a deposit for a commercial mortgage to effect the transfer of ownership of Filtrona Park. Events have moved rapidly to overtake the mooted share issue with Crowdcube, and as time is now of the very essence to hopefully achieve what was always the first choice option of the club, namely the outright purchase of the ground, which has been its home for 20 years, the following most sincere appeal is now made public....To address the current shortfall in the sum required to obtain a bank commercial mortgage to proceed with an agreed sale figure for the ground, the club most sincerely now requests all with an interest in the club, to please contribute with whatever such sums may be possible to make available as a donation, for which it would be indebted for such public spiritedness, kindness, support and generosity, in an effort to most hopefully conclude the purchase of Filtrona Park. All cheques please make out to South Shields FC, and forward to Mr Phillip Reay, Secretary, 114, Basilway, South Shields, NE34 8UF, for which due acknowledgement in gratitude will be forthcoming. Much comment and rumour has been apparent recently surrounding the future of the club and in particular where it will be playing next season, and this development as outlined could if most hopefully successful result in a highly satisfactory outcome and most positive conclusion. The time for talk is therefore now ended, and the club hopes to be able with the assistance of its supporting public at large to proceed with the purchase of the ground as a permanent home. As such grants for its development and upgrade etc would all be applied for to effect the creation of a community sports club for all, as is now emerging with the successful creation of a so far 12 team junior pyramid, and envisaged academy and senior reserve side, in a stadium fit for promotion to the next level and greatly hoped for eventual return to the Northern Premier League of former years. For tomorrow a massed photo shoot will take place and the opportunity to congratulate our prize winning juniors for their meritorious exploits of late. So it is hoped for a grand turnout of supporters for the game and that full publicity via all our supporters and friends with the clubs interests at heart will please rally round and help wherever possible, all for which the club would be indebted and ever grateful. Thank you dear fellow Mariners and Shields folk for your support and assistance, and all friends and colleagues in the STL Northern League and beyond who may please also kindly wish to help.
