Still 2-0 for Grantham Town, and Newcastle Town now down to 10 men.

i feel sorry for Newcastle Town. They've had a tremendous season but this goes to show that when it comes to the playoffs, the league counts for NOTHING.

Final scores

Newcastle Town 0 Grantham Town 3
Rushall Olympic 3 Brigg Town 0

I know this gets debated every season, but the play offs really are a lottery. In my opinion they are just not fair. We have a 42/44 game league season, and yet some of the promotion places get decided by a cup competition.

daz i think it would be fairer if there was 3 promoted,2 automatic and play offs for the 3rd spot.

Two automatic promotion slots and one decided by play offs for Divs One Sth & Nth would mean six teams being relegated from the Premier Division which really is too many.

The current set up isn't great but is probably the fairest. After all the play offs are designed to keep the interest in the top half of the table going right to the end of the season.

If you win either Div 1 Sth or Nth you go up.

The next four in each division have FAILED to win the automatic slot but get to play in the mini cup to grab the other promotion slot.

I've lots of sympathy for Newcastle but we all knew at season's start that second place only wins you home advantage in the play offs.

That cantankerous old Newcastle fan we came across earlier this season will have a face like a smacked bottom tonight.

Good.

The play offs are a lottery, however as said at the start of the season we all know that if you don't win the league you've got two more matches to get promotion.

Newcastle let down all the great work they did during the season. We however put in an amazing shift, it was obvious that we wanted it more. For a team that scored almost twice asmany goals than us over the season, they never managed a shot on direct in the second half.

Brilliant travelling support once again.

Anyone else encountered Miss Misery bottom at the tea bar? Surely when you've got that many people wanting your stuff you'd be happy to be making money.

They were alright with us tbf and on that night they had queues building up an hour prior to KO. Strange because we didn't actually take that many, just greedy I suppose.

At least teams get home advantage at this level, I think the pro model is even more unfair. I'd actually favour the gauntlet system of 4th v 5th, winner v 3rd, winner v 2nd.

Goose, interesting view. Of course, that would have 2nd place hanging about for over a week after the end of the season with no game and might hand an advantage to the team that has played one or two to get to the final. On the other hand, they would be more tired.

I agree that given there are play-offs, to play a single game on the ground of the side finishing higher is giving what advantage you can to the side finishing higher in the table. Last night Rushall took that advantage, Newcastle didn't.

To those who say it isn't fair  that a side can finish eleven points behind second place and be in the play-off final, I say if it were your side, would you turn it down? .... Didn't think so.

Whatever the outcome, we will make everything out of what promises to be a great day out on Monday. I hope the sight of over 200 visiting supporters doesn't prove to be too much for the Rushall turnstiles and stewards to cope with!!!
