BILLINGHAM TOWN v DUNSTON UTS PREVIEW
FA VASE FIRST ROUND

The last two unbeaten sides within the Northern League meet this Saturday when Billingham Town host bookies fourth favourites for the Vase itself, Dunston UTS. Town were handed a tough draw by the FA but will be looking to take advantage of a home tie against a side that have hardly played on the road in recent weeks. Dunston manager Chris Swales won the Vase twice as a player, once with Dunston and also at Morpeth Town.

FOCUS ON DUNSTON:
Dunston are arguably the strongest team in the Northern League right now. Manager Chris Swales has overseen a squad that remains unbeaten all season and have won five qualifying rounds in the FA Cup to go along with two FA Vase victories. Swales will want to avoid a replay with Gateshead the main focus next weekend as they plan a route into the first round of the FA Cup. Weaknesses are few and far between but they did struggle to cope with several crosses last week against Chester. Dunston have three quality strikers who all offer something different. Liam Brooks is a towering centre forward and links up well with the nimble Mark Fitzpatrick. Former prolific Chester Le Street man Scott Heslop could figure if either Brooks or Fitzpatrick are rested. Ammunition comes a plenty on the wings via Liam Thear on the right and Jack Elliott on the left. Andrew Grant-Soulsby is the holding central midfielder. In defence, right back Liam Marrs likes to get forward or play the long diagonal ball to Brooks. Michael Pearson, Dan Capewell and Dan Halliday are all solid defenders. Keith Dryden is the experienced goalkeeper from Morpeth Town.

ONE TO WATCH: LIAM THEAR
Fourth season at the club for the attacking midfielder, a product of Gateshead’s academy. Strong, quick and a tricky player who likes to drive forward into the penalty box. A box of tricks and a constant goal threat.

RECENT RESULTS:
Dunston 4-3 Chester (Brooks, Fitzpatrick 2, Grant-Soulsby) - FA Cup
Dunston 2-1 Consett (Stafford, Brooks)
Dunston 3-1 Newton Aycliffe (Thear, Elliott, Nellis)
Dunston 2-1 Irlam (Brooks 2) - FA Cup
Dunston 4-1 North Ferriby (Brooks, Fitzpatrick 2, Thear) - FA Cup
Dunston 4-2 Pontefract Collieries (Fitzpatrick 2, Heslop, Nellis) - FA Cup

FA VASE RESULTS:
Ryhope CW 0-2 Dunston (Heslop, Brooks)
Dunston 2-0 Heaton Stannington (Stafford, Fitzpatrick)

TALKING TOWN:
Matty Robinson sits out his second game of a three match suspension and Ash Lavan is Cup-tied having already played in the competition for Guisborough Town. Craig Hutchinson and Dan Flounders both return from short breaks. Elliott Beddow and Reece Kenney are long term absentees while Brandon Kirkbride and Kris Summers face late fitness tests. Mark Dixon is at a wedding over the weekend and is rated doubtful.
