BILLINGHAM TOWN v BIRTLEY TOWN PREVIEW
FA VASE SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND

After defeating AFC Campion in the last round, Town entertain an in form Birtley Town for a place in the first round outright. With there being several all northern league ties being played over the weekend, the winners could potentially face clubs from either the North West or North East Counties League come October time. Town fans will be hoping for an away day if they were to be successful in this tie.

FOCUS ON BIRTLEY:
After two seasons in the Northern Alliance, Birtley were promoted back into the Northern League for this season and they have gotten off to a credible start. So far they have visited Heaton Stannington, Willington and Redcar and come away unbeaten and their home form has seen them risen into the top six. There is a team ethic on show based on organisation and hard work but they do have a couple of flair players in Ricky Tanoh and top scorer Joe Barwick. Daniel Hill and Jak Honour will also be a threat going forward but Honour faces a one match ban. In defence, full backs Simon Hay and Mark Pattinson are happy to sit deep and play from within their own half. Former Town goalkeeper Mark Hodgson is part of the squad. Birtley received a Bye in the first qualifying round.

ONE TO WATCH: MATTIE SOULSBY
The former Crook, Esh Winning and Tow Law talisman can play in central midfield or in central defence. Although going down to a 2-0 defeat recently at Thornaby, Soulsby was outstanding at the heart of the defence. Barry Oliver tried to sign him last summer but he decided to join Tow Law instead. Could be the man to break down Towns attack and also a threat at set pieces.

RECENT RESULTS:
Birtley 2-1 Durham (Barwick 2)
Birtley 3-2 Crook (Hill, Soulsby, Hay)
Birtley 2-0 Brandon (Hill, Barwick)
Redcar 1-1 Birtley (Tanoh)
Thornaby 2-0 Birtley
Willington 1-1 Birtley (Honour)
Birtley 1-3 Easington (McEwan)
Birtley 5-0 Tow Law (Barwick 3, Soulsby, Tanoh)

TALKING TOWN:
Former Crook Town midfielder Kyle Morris signed on the eve of the Northallerton game and will be added to the squad. Luke Hogan returns from holiday but will be lacking match fitness while Elliott Beddow could figure after two weeks out due to injury. Reece Kenney is on holiday and will return in time for the West Allotment game. Matthew Robinson, Dom Joynes, Joe Hillerby, Arthur Connelly, Michael Hughes and Dan Flounders could all be vying for places in midfield or even in defence while Brandon Kirkbride impressed when introduced last week against Northallerton Town.

OTHER INFO:
If the game is all square after full time and extra time, then there will be a replay at Birtley in midweek. If Billingham were to defeat Birtley Town then the league fixture against Thornaby on Saturday 13th October will be rearranged due to FA Vase first round action on that date.
