ESH WINNING v BILLINGHAM TOWN PREVIEW

Matchday five, and Town travel up to picturesque Waterhouses, the home of Esh Winning. It’s a fixture that often produces plenty of goals but not always in the Esh netting! The last three encounters, including an Earnest Memorial cup defeat read as W4-3, D2-2, L3-4. Never the less, Town will head north in confident fashion after a scintillating start to the season, and then they move onto a much anticipated FA Vase tie against a flamboyant AFC Campion side.

FOCUS ON ESH:
It’s amazing how often Esh avoided relegation in the past, but it’s fair to say they’re a different club these days. They will be expected to finish in the bottom half of the table, but on any given day, can cause teams problems. Callum Boakes, the son of Manager Tony, scored a screamer in the 1-1 draw at Bedford Terrace last season and is probably their most technically gifted player. Connor Halpin is another goal threat, the former Hartlepool United man has already scored on several occasions this season. Goalkeeper Mark Fish performed miracles in this fixture before, despite the high scoring results and Max Stoker has been at the club for several years now, a former Durham City man when they played at New Ferens Park. They have two Browns - Gav, a no nonsense, tough tackling central midfielder and Reece, who plays out on the wing.

ONE TO WATCH: NICK MARLEY
An old style centre forward in a similar vein to Chester Le-Streets Andy Clarkson and Heaton Stannington’s Jonathan Wright. Tall, strong, good in the air and excellent at holding up the ball. Never gives the defence a moments rest.

RECENT RESULTS:
Esh Winning 3-3 Bedlington Terriers (Boakes, Stoker, R.Brown)
West Allotment Celtic 2-2 Esh Winning (Stoker, Halpin)
Chester-Le-Street Town 3-1 Esh Winning (McKellar)
Brandon United 1-1 Esh Winning (Marley)
Northallerton Town 6-1 Esh Winning (Halpin)

TALKING TOWN:
Last week we touched on the possibility of a new arrival and the club are pleased to announce the signing of talented young midfielder Arthur Connelly from Stockton Town. Connelly goes straight into the squad along with last weeks signing, Ollie Simpson. Former Marske defender Ryan Grier, who figured briefly in pre-season has joined Billingham Synthonia. There are several players who are away on holiday and that includes Lee Moore, Kris Summers, Luke Hogan and Dan Maddison. Reece Kenney, Matty Hughes and Dan Flounders should all return after missing last week’s win against Bedlington Terriers. Injury wise - Brandon Kirkbride who is nursing a ham-string strain could make the bench. Of course, the major news this week revolved around Elliott Beddow’s decision in turning down Marske United and Town can expect interest for other players too. In the past, Lee Moore & Kris Summers have caught the eye of division one clubs and it is something Town supporters may need to get used to in the coming months.
