Thanks to Ray Morton for stepping up and taking on press officer duties ('cause Graham couldn't be arsed to turn up  )

Match Report

With new signings and players returning to the squad Town entertained Ryton and Crawcrook Albion, with the home side being unbeaten in their pre season .

The game started slowly for the home side with Ryton taking the game to their hosts. Reece Kenney had a shot wide after 4 minutes but Ryton had a lot of possession without troubling debutant keeper Sam Naylor. After 18 mins a far post header by Lee Moore was easily saved by Stefan Holden for the visitors, this was followed by another long range effort from Kenney that went wide. On 25 mins a cross from the right by Moore came to Craig Hutchinson whose first shot was saved by Holden but the rebound was forced home 1-0 .

On 31 mins an high ball into the Town box saw keeper Sam Naylor come to the edge of the area and collide with an Ryton attacker, referee Burt pointed to the spot, before giving a yellow card to Naylor much to the displeasure of the home side.

Naylor did well to save the pentalty but the rebound was followed up by Scott Jasper to make it 1-1. Both sides were struggling to get worthwhile efforts on goal .

HALF TIME: BILLINGHAM TOWN 1 RYTON AND CRAWCROOK ALBION 1

The second half exploded into action on 47 mins when Craig Hutchinson turned in the area and calmly knocked the ball into the net off the near post with Holden stranded .

Ryton were tiring but David Luke had a dangerous shot just wide after 57 mins, and Elliott Beddow came close with a good shot. On 63 mins a cross from the dangerous Lee Moore saw Hutchinson on hand to force the ball into the net for his hat trick on return to the club .This signalled the first sub with Luke Hogan on for Joynes on the left . After 70 mins Hutchinson almost got his fourth when another cross bounced on the line with Holden beaten but somehow was forced away by an defender for a corner.

Joe Hillerby came on for the hard working Elliott Beddow after 73 min , and defender Brandon Kirkbride found himself free in the area and struck a shot at the keeper . On 80 mins Hutchinson got through against an ever more pedestrian defence and brought a save out of Holden . Matthew Hughes came on for Lee Moore and straight away he got free in midfield and hit a superb 25 yds shot past Stefan Holden 4-1 .

A comprehensive win after taking time to wear down Ryton and Crawcrook Albion, a team effort and move on to another tough away game at Jarrow on Wednesday .
