BILLINGHAM TOWN (4 ) 6 HOLBROOK St MICHAELS (0 )0
Hutchinson 4 pen, 39
Robinson 9, 17, 84
Joynes 80

Billingham welcomed opposition from Derbyshire in the shape of Holbrook St Michaels. The Central Midlands League side who play at their equivalent to the Wearside League were in the region before a team bonding session on Tyneside. The club, who are based on the outskirts of Belper, followed in the footsteps of near neighbours Hucknall Town who recently travelled up north to face North Riding side Redcar Town. Where as Hucknall earned a 1-1 draw, St Michaels knew they were to face a tougher examination and so it proved on the day. So far, Billingham had played against step one/three opposition in Hartlepool United and Whitby Town respectively and came out of those games undefeated. The drop in class against step seven opposition was self evident as Town ran out comfortable winners on the day. Craig Hutchinson bagged a brace despite not having his shooting boots on while Matthew Robinson capped off a fine individual display with a free kick to earn a hat-trick. Hutchinsons first came via the penalty spot and the second, a neat finish inside the box after good work from Elliott Beddow on the left wing. Robinson’s first goal came from a poor pass back from the defender and the winger rolled the ball into the bottom corner and the second was a superb drilled shot from the edge of the box. The second half didn’t have the same fluency as the first but the game opened up inside the final ten minutes. Dom Joynes did get the fifth goal, tucking in the rebound after the keeper saved Hutchinsons low shot. And Robinson had the final say with an eloquent free kick from twenty five yards out.

FT BILLINGHAM TOWN 6 HOLBROOK ST MICHAELS 0

Town squad:
Patton (Trialist), Flounders (Oakley), Dixon, Kenney, Kirkbride (Summers), Connor, Moore, Hogan, Beddow (Maddison), Hutchinson, Robinson (Joynes).

Flounders, Beddow, Robinson, although were substituted, came back on during the second half.

Next up: Town host Northern League Champions Marske United on Thursday night. Former manager Carl Jarrett will no doubt utilise his squad in preparation for the Cleator Cup encounter against Dunston, two days later. After this game, Billingham have a blank Saturday before York City U20’s visit Bedford Terrace on the following Tuesday night. The game will be Towns final pre season friendly before Ryton & Crawcrook Albion travel southwards to kick off the new season on August 4th.
