Brendan was born in South Africa in 1976, some books say Johannesburg, others says Bloemfontein. His parents were from Huddersfield and after Brendan was born, returned to Huddersfield.

Brendan started out with Huddersfield Town and in 1993-94 had loan spells with Eccleshill United and Ossett Albion. He never played in the first team at Leeds Road, with the likes of Peter Jackson and Graham Mitchell in front of him and he left in 1994. Other familiar names to OTFC fans at Huddersfield that season include Simon Collins, Simon Baldry, Rodney Rowe, Matty Crowther and Michael Midwood. Simon Trevitt later played for Ossett Albion.

Brendan joined Mansfield Town in 1994 and made his debut in a 2-0 win v Colchester United. Also playing for Mansfield was Aidy Boothroyd, former Leeds striker Kevin Noteman (his brother Ian played for OTFC) and former Halifax left back Paul Fleming who also later played for OTFC. In the League Cup, Mansfield were drawn to play Leeds United. The Leeds team under Howard Wilkinson was: John Lukic, Gary Kelly, Nigel Worthington, Carlton Palmer, Chris Fairclough, Gordon Strachan, Philo Masinga, Rod Wallace, Noel Whelan, Gary McAllister, Gary Speed and subs Lucas Radebe and Brian Deane. Not a bad team at all and Mansfield beat them 1-0, with a goal from Simon Ireland. For the second leg, Leeds made some changes but it was still a very strong team, with Tony Dorigo, David Wetherall and John Pemberton playing. The game finished 0-0. Brendan didn't play in the 3rd round as Mansfield had signed former Peterborough defender Mark Peters.

Brendan later played in a FA Cup game against Halifax Town who had Craig Boardman in the team. Brendan's final game for Mansfield was 4-0 win at Wigan Athletic. He played 28 games in all, scoring 1 goal.

In 1995, Brendan joined Irish League side Coleraine. They won the Gold Cup in 1997 which qualified them for the UEFA Cup, where they were drawn against Swiss side Grasshoppers. The Swiss side won the first leg in Switzerland 3-0 and the 2nd leg in Ireland 7-1. In both games Brendan managed to score an own goal.

In 1999, Brendan joined Hyde United and signed for Ossett Town in 2000. He formed a strong partnership with Craig Boardman, though Brooky was never entirely happy with his defence. Brooky wanted a larger than life character like Brian Kilcline at centre half, whereas it would be fair to say Brendan and Craig were similar players, not very aggressive and not loud either, but technically very solid defenders.

Brendan later joined Ashton United and also played for Wakefield Emley. It was rumoured he was going to become a physio while at Ashton, I don't whether that is correct. In recent years he has been playing in the Huddersfield & District League, I think with Golcar United.
