next round, home to consett, 3 grand for the winners.

We've met them a couple of times before in the cup. first time was when Rico was in charge, coach driver treated us to a lovely tour of the Durham countryside (and on a sunny day it was very nice too) on our way to Consett, when we got there I went for a walk around town and had a pint in one of the local pubs before going back to the ground, where a local with a chip on his shoulder gave me some lip about drinking elsewhere rather than in the ground, turns out he had been tipped off by someone else from Ossett who thought I was disrespectful to other clubs by drinking in local pubs rather than in the ground at away games "they might do the same to us" he bleated. "Not a problem", I thought, so I stopped going to the away matches. We won comfortably 5-1, Andy Hayward and James Walshaw were on top form and that was the season we reached the 4th qualifying round.

Consett got their revenge a couple of years later with a comfortable 3-0 win. Apparently the coach driver that day also took the team for a grand tour of Durham, the supporters who went came back blaming Wayne Benn for telling the driver what route to take, which seemed odd at the time because I've never known a coach driver ever listen to advice, good or bad.

1-0 win. extra £4,500 from the FA.

I haven't seen all the results yet but the stand out result so far is South Shields winning 3-0 at Darlington and South Shields are the visitors to Ingfield on Tuesday night. I watched the South Shields v Bridlington match when they showed that on the BBC website a few weeks ago and they looked like a team that likes to play a patient, passing game.

2 proper cup games they were!

Really enjoyed my trip to Ossett on Tuesday, nice bunch of people. As you could tell the 200 of us Northwich fans that turned up were a proud bunch haha

Good luck in the next round, will be keeping an eye on your score.

Solihull's new manager, he took charge for his first game v Hartlepool yesterday.

he's done the full spectrum of football, started out in the Eastern Counties League with Lowestoft Town, turned pro and did the hard yards at Scunthorpe and Fulham, played alongside some of the greatest players in British football at Liverpool and played against Bayern Munich in a European Cup semi final, then back down the divisions to finish back at Scunthorpe.

As for his coaching and management career, took Walsall and Cambridge to promotions, reached a play off final with Luton; had success in Sweden and Australia and managed the academy teams of a number of teams, and was Norwich City academy manager at the start of this season.

I don't know much about Solihull's team, but they all seem to be experienced players with mainly midlands sides. The star player is former Birmingham, Sunderland and West Brom midfielder Darren Carter who spent last season at Forest Green Rovers in their promotion team.

All the best to everyone going there, enjoy the day just like the Northwich lads clearly did the other night.

if we beat Solihull tomorrow night, then it's Wycombe Wanderers at home in the 1st round proper.

lost 1-2.

attendance 1176. I'm pretty sure that's our first 4 figure crowd since the Doncaster match in 1999.

best of luck to Solihull for the remainder of the season.
