Ossett Town never appeared in the FA Amateur Cup, I don't think we were officially classed as an "amateur" club in the true Football Association definition of the word; but Ossett Albion did appear in the Amateur Cup for many years, right up until the competition closed in 1974. In it's place came the FA Vase and our first appearance came in the 1976-77 season.

preliminary round - away at Swallownest Miners Welfare, game not played "walkover" to Ossett Town

1st Round - home to Leeds Ashley Road, lost 0-2

we were in Yorkshire League Division 2 and ended the season in 5th place.

Swallownest had been members of the Yorkshire League from 1960 to 1971, it is assumed they returned to one of local leagues around Sheffield, probably the County Senior League. Presumably they closed down either during the summer of 1976 after the draw had been made, or they were unable to fulfil the fixture for some unknown reason. The name of Swallownest Miners Welfare is the new name of Aston Juniors who are playing in the Sheffield County Senior League for the 2014-15 season.

Leeds Ashley Road joined the Yorkshire League in 1965 and were promoted from Division 2 in 1976, they also reached the 5th Round of the Vase in the 1975-76 season. After knocking us out, Ashley Road beat Ossett Albion and Whitkirk Wanderers before losing to eventual Yorkshire League champions Winterton Rangers. Ashley Road are believed to have closed down in 1983.

Yorkshire League Division 2 champions Sheffield FC reached the Vase final, losing to Billericay Town

1978-79

preliminary round away at BSC Parkgate, won 6-0

1st Round home to Ruston Sports, won 2-0

2nd Round home to Tadcaster Albion won 2-0

3rd Round away at Seaham Colliery Welfare Red Star lost 0-4

we were in Yorkshire League Division 1, our first season back in the top division since 1962. We finished the 1978-79 season in 6th place.

BSC Parkgate were in Yorkshire League Division 3 and won promotion this season. They are now known as Parkgate and play in the NCEL.

Ruston Sports are from Lincoln and I think they were in the Lincolnshire League at this time, their website is not forthcoming on this issue. There was another team in the Lincs League around this time called Ruston Bucyrus, and both clubs played in the Lincolnshire League during the 1980's. Ruston Sports still play in the Lincolnshire League and have a large junior set up if their website is anything to go by. May also have been known as Alstom Sports at some point.

Tadcaster Albion had reached the 5th Round of the Vase the previous season, and were also in Yorkshire League Division 1, though they were relegated this season.

Seaham, using their original title, were members of the Northern Alliance, though they joined the Wearside League in 1979. Seaham beat Prescot Town in the next round, before losing to Whickham.

1980-81

preliminary round home to Burnley Belvedere won 3-2

1st Round home to Leyland Motors lost 0-3

we avoided relegation back to Division 3 on goal difference from Fryston and Hatfield. Thorne and Rawmarsh were also relegated.

Burnley Belvedere were in the Lancashire Amateur League, they currently play in the East Lancashire League.

Leyland Motors had been long standing members of the Lancashire Combination, but in 1980 they transferred to the Cheshire County League, finishing 3rd in Division 2. In the next round, Leyland lost to Rylands, a Mid Cheshire League side. Leyland were later known as Leyland DAF and left the NWCL in 1991. There's a Leyland currently in the West Lancs League.
