Ossett A, Glasshoughton W, Stocksbridge PS. a professional photographer, his photo of the 1993-94 team "adorned" our committee room wall for years afterwards. It was a great photo, just a pity it was a rubbish team. :( there's a couple of Paul Robinson's playing about that time.

and there ends the lesson. I'll do a mopping up operation probably over the weekend, no doubt I've missed some players out. I will probably also do a list of managers and coaches along the lines of what I have done above. It won't be a complete list by any means but it's a starter for anyone else doing further research.

WILCOX, C 89-90
WILSON, P 88-89
WOOD, S 89-90

if truth to be told, I'm not altogether convinced about all the players listed on this thread, especially those who played during Dave Leadbeater and Ali Millar's reigns. It may be that I have got the wrong end of the stick and one or two players aren't who I thought they were.

As mentioned on another thread, a lot of my information came from the matchday programmes (home and away) from that time. Also I got info from the various Non League Directories and Rothman's Yearbooks as well as various books about Football League clubs. Other info came from actually talking to players and managers at the time, as well as committee and supporters. Also newspapers reports (especially YEP) and specialist non league magazines (Tony Williams, James Wright etc)

All mistakes are mine unless I copied someone's else mistakes

MANAGERS - a very incomplete guide

1936 to 1959 no idea, could have been the committee for all I know

1959-60 - Austin Collier. this I know because Frank Lloyd told me his first manager here was Austin Collier, who used to play for Mansfield Town, York City, Rochdale and Halifax Town. Collier also played for Partick Thistle, Celtic, Third Lanark and Queen of the South while serving in Scotland during the war. In non league he played for Upton Colliery, Frickley Colliery, Goole Town and Scarborough. How long he was our manager I don't know.

1960's - the committee. Again this is from Frank. As a player, he would hang around the old committee room after training waiting for them to make their pronouncement on what the next team will be. The old committee room was in a 2 story building on the site of the current car wash.

1971-72 - Frank Lloyd. Aged 43, he was our player manager that season. He stepped down at the end of the season to become the football secretary.

1972 to 1975 - John Riley. a former Emley player, he won promotion in his first season. Later went to live in Cornwall where he coached the Cornwall FA under 19's.

1975-1976 - Malcolm Richardson. not too sure about this one, the older members of the club weren't sure either when they told me years ago.

late 70's - Barry Walker. also managed Leeds Ashley Road and Selby Town.

early 80's - Brian Moran. a former Barnsley, Frickley and Goole player. He won County Cup in 1982.

1984-1987 - David Heeley. came from Dewsbury I think, was sacked to make way for Micky Bullock, Firthy admitted years later that was one of his hardest ever decisions to make. Heeley later was assistant manager at Guiseley.

1987-1991 - Micky Bullock. Played for England Schoolboys then a pro with Birmingham City, Oxford United, Orient and Halifax Town. His brother Peter also a pro with Stoke City, Birmingham and others. Micky coached then managed Halifax Town and was at Goole Town before coming to Ossett. After leaving us in 1991, he later scouted for a number of clubs, including I think, Aberdeen.

1991- Feb 1993. David Leadbeater. details further up this thread.

Feb 1993 - May 1993. Chris Allwood. caretaker manager. There was a Christopher Allwood who played for Derbyshire and England Schools in the late 1970's. Could be a different player.

May 1993 - Feb 1994. Ali Millar. From Glasgow, played for Benburb before turning pro with Barnsley. Later with York City, Matlock Town and Worksop Town. also coached in the USA and was assistant manager to Ronnie Glavin at Frickley before joining us. Left to join Gainsborough Trinity.

Feb 1994 - May 1994. Derrick Parker. details further up this thread.

1994- 1996. Wayne Day. details further up this thread.

1996 - Jan 1999. Trevor Best. Came from Northern Ireland and played for Ards, amongst others. Managed Liversedge before taking our job. After leaving us he went to Thackley.

Jan 1999 - 2003 Gary Brook. details further up this thread.

2003 - 10/03 Scott Cooper. a former Barnsley player, he had coached at Chester City and had managed various teams in the USA and the Carribean before returning to the UK. Was a PE teacher at a school in South Yorkshire when he joined us. Resigned after a defeat at Matlock in the Trophy.

Oct 2003 - Dec 2005 - Steve Richards. Played for Hull City, Bridlington Trinity, Grantham, Goole Town, SK Lierse (Belgium), Gainsborough Trinity, York City, Weitz (South Africa), Lincoln City, Cambridge United, Scarborough, Halifax Town, Doncaster Rovers and Guiseley. managed Guiseley, Gainsborough, Frickley and Goole before taking our job. Left us amid some acrimony and made some allegations against the club in an Evening Post article. Later managed Hall Road Rangers. Worked as a detective with the Humberside force.

Dec 2005 - Dec 2007 - Steve Kittrick. Played for Pontefract Collieries, Ossett Albion and Ossett Town. manager at Glasshoughton Welfare and Goole before joining us as Steve Richards' assistant. Rumours were swirling that we were on the verge of sacking him when he resigned and took over the Guiseley job. I think he had the last laugh there.

Dec 2007 - July 2009 - Simon Collins. Played for Huddersfield Town, Halifax Town, Plymouth Argyle, Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town, Frickley Athletic, Belper Town, Bradford PA and Stocksbridge PS. This was his first management job, had his budget cut a couple of times, resigned after a pre season match at Liversedge. Later managed Stocksbridge Park Steels and Bradford Park Avenue. His brother Sam played for Huddersfield amongst others.

July 2009 - Nov 2009 - Paul Lines and Mick Couzens. Paul Lines had been our reserve team manager the previous season, Mick had been Bradford PA's reserve manager. Mick left amid some acrimony and Paul reverted back to reserve manager.

Nov 2009 - March 2010 - Peter Daniel. played for Hull City, Wolves, Minnesota Kicks (USA), Sunderland, Lincoln City, Burnley, North Ferriby United and the England under 21 team. managed Lincoln City, North Ferriby U, Winterton Rangers, Pontefract Collieries, Denaby United and Goole before joining us.

March 2010 - May 2010 - Paul Lines. Stepped up again to look after the first team until the end of the season. Later managed Yorkshire Amateur and is now in charge at Wakefield FC.

June 2010 - Jan 2012 - Phil Sharpe. played for Doncaster Rovers, Halifax Town, Farsley Celtic, Altrincham, Gateshead, Glasshoughton Welfare, Ashton United, Bradford PA, Garforth Town, Harrogate Town, Gainsborough Trinity, Guiseley, Frickley Athletic and a couple of teams in Belgium. managed Frickley, Bradford PA and Harrogate RA before joining us.

Jan 2012 - May 2012 - Eric Gilchrist. former Liversedge and Ossett Albion manager, was Phil Sharpe's assistant then caretaker manager until the end of the season.

June 2012 - Feb 2014 - Craig Elliott. Played for Doncaster Rovers, Guiseley, Glasshoughton Welfare, Stocksbridge PS, Harrogate Town and North Ferriby United. reserve team manager at Pontefract Collieries then managed Kellingley Colliery and Glasshougton Welfare before joining us, now at Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

Feb 2014 - now. John Reed.

I had to go back over some of the threads from the 2009-10 to get a clearer picture of who was here and when. I have to admit I hadn't realised it was so bad here, some angry people at this club that season, I'm just glad I had already left by then.
