Flixton have provisionally resigned from the league citing finances as the reason.

Must say that its unsurprising after our visit the other week with no tea bar, no pitch side advertising and a lack of home support.

A great shame. I liked their ground and volunteers.

Would be a shame to see a club relatively local to my home town (Stretford lad when I'm not at Uni) disappear. Must be painful being in the NWCFL Prem and nearly always having attendances of around 20, not hugely sustainable to say the least.

Yes, it is sad to see any club going down the plug hole, particularly sad for those few volunteers who keep clubs going, often with little or no thanks for their efforts. Frankly, I am surprised that more clubs are not in trouble; even promotion can bring financial problems. I continue to be of the opinion that the NWCFL could do more to help its member clubs by reorganising the leagues on a sub-regional basis; this would reduce travel costs for all concerned. Promotion and relegation could be managed by way of end of season play offs (top two, bottom two in each sub-division).

Part of being in the NWCFL is leaving you local opponents and playing new teams. If the leagues are regionalised you may as well stay in your county league.

i agree with overblues points, but i must tell him that probably
as many as 6 or 8 clubs are struggling, its fine the fa and the league
insting on higher standrds (everyone would love that) but there is
NO MONEY around to pay for it, no use fining clubs just makes matters
worse, and as we have seen in the last couple of seasons when clubs
fold there is no rush of clubs to replace them,
so when the ground graders turn up and issue their list of requirements
and clubs cant afford them what happens if say 3 or 4 clubs just cant
comply what are they going to do EXPELL THEM ? and leave the league
even shorter of clubs i think not,

unless a club has for want of a better word a sugar daddy, or some
local buisness people who will help a club in their community it will struggle,
just look at some of the gates, and with officials costing anything up to as
much as 110 pounds or more per game just do the maths,

if the fa want to promote football through the pyramid system then fa
partner sponsors should be encouraged to look at this problem,

all the millions of pounds at the top and nothing at the bottom will lead
in my opinion to a loss of many clubs over the next decade,

so lets all get our thinking caps on.

Sad news that another team has serious problems & fighting to survive. Seen Flixton on numerous occasions & been there a number of times - must admit, was never my favourite ground as it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere & difficult to get to on public transport, but many grounds with the same problems I suppose. Remember them giving FCUM hard times in FC's first couple of seasons & wasn't the delightfully named Uncle Fester manager for a long time - gave everyone a hard time did that guy.
All I can say is I hope Flixton FC survive in some form & find their feet again. Would imagine lots of non league players & fans have been to Flixton or played against them - let's hope they don't become a distant memory. Good luck to all at Flixton!

Ditto.

I have heard today that Flixton tried to apply for the Manchester League, but their ground and pitch weren't up to much :?

I used to work at Valley Road in the bar in the days when they were getting to the Semi Final of the FA Vase, so it's very sad my local team, has gone. :(

This is wrong, Flixton has a grade F certificate which is viable up to NWC standard. Flixtons application to join the Manchester league would not have been rejected due to the standard of the ground.
