Playing the reverse fixture already this season to Matlock Town. (All fixtures this midweek are the reverse fixture of the 2 set of fixtures this season  ) At home we should have at least had a point out of them, leading 1-0 for most of the game and then gave away a needless penalty and then Matlock went on to win the game.

Hopefully after getting our first point of the season last Saturday let's hope there's a bit of confidence in the lads to push on and get all 3ponits tonight.

I'll be missing the game due to setting off to Moldova for International duty! So best of luck tonight boys.

Come on Frickley

Up The Blues!!

I wish the Blues well at Matlock. Might be forced to play two or one up now that Danny South has gone and Chris
Wood might have decided he's better playing for Parkgate. A good performance required and points would be welcome.

our confidence should be better for picking up a point on saturday,
the 2 goals they scored against us are the only times they have scored this season,so they are having trouble hitting the back of the net, heres hoping for something, wont be making the trip so good luck blues.

Full Time and we got beat 3-1, but I've been told that we didn't do that bad and result flatters Matlock.

Can't fault the players tonight. They played all the football but without any luck. most of the first half in Matlock half until a cross turned into a shot (44 min) and went in. Nothing keeper could do. Same in second half. Frickley shots hit players and went wide, on other days they go in. Glyn Cotton scored with a great shot. They never gave up trying.

Scoreline totally flattered Matlock, and even with my unbiased eyes we played the better football. Not much in it for the first 25-30 minutes, but then we were all over them like a rash, but the ball just would not go in the net,the final ball was missing, we scuffed shots around the box and when we did get a clean strike on it, it pinged off one of their players and rattled away to safety. Then we got caught on the stroke of half time, with what looked like to me a great goal.McMahon bending it over Woodhead into the top corner, No keeper would have saved it. Also Picton was outstanding in the first half, making 2 or 3 slide tackles in his box winning the ball cleanly.

Even in the 2nd half, we were much the better passing side, Matlock didn't even look that dangerous on the break...What let us down was the decision making in key areas. Matlock's 2nd goal coming from nobody pressing the ball and allowing the man to turn in the box, and i think Woodhead was unsighted as a powerful shot came through the players and went literally through him. Cotton then scored a great goal, lashing it it from the edge of the box and we looked like we may grab something. But we really shot ourself in the foot with poor decision making again for the third. Our defender got caught at the back and Tom came rushing out of the net,Matlock actually pushed it wide and by the time they put the cross in, Tom was back in goal as the ball went across the face of goal. I thought Jake could have hooked it away, but didn't and we just got caught messing around with at the back not clearing our lines, Then our keeper spilled it, before their player poked it home. Disappointing goal to concede.

I really came away thinking how did we get beat 3-1. Deserved a point at least imo. Our full backs had good games, and it must be difficult for Jake playing alongside Milan who speaks little English. I know more Hungarian than he know's English. !!

Early day's for the back 4, only the second time they have played together. Not a time to get too disheartened either as like i said, footballing wise we were good, Obviously we just need that finishing touch with another option of another striker, and cut out the sloppy goals...Keep the faith. Sometimes you don't get what you deserve.

P.s. I know us at Frickley are regarded as maybe slightly biased and give ref's a hard time, But deary me it was embarrassing at Matlock. A lot of 50/50 balls, with fouls either way....probably the worst foul was in the first 15 minutes when a Matlock player went straight through one of our lads. The ref let quite a lot go, but that's how it should be, as long as nothing is malicious, it's a man's game in it. The last time i heard desperate appealing like that, the Yorkshire Ripper pleaded Not Guilty. The abuse they gave the ref to say they won 3-1 was a disgrace to be honest. Oh and their beer was absolute shi*te.. Remind me to get the Fosters Eggstra back when they are in town again !!.

Sounds like a decent performance, just need to cut out the mistakes as much as possible and to finish better.
Understanding only comes with games played together.

Some interesting views on the Matlock forum:

"The referee was fertilizer and Frickley as ever are just a dirty pub team."

"Frickley applied a physical style and left without any dividend; some disgraceful challenges which could and should have resulted in red. If they continue in that vein they're bound for the league below (as apart from the goal) they played basic hoofball and very few wearing blue last night, will weep for them. Turned over twice inside a fortnight; tough luck."

Yep seen that, to be honest i felt like giving a few of their fans a good shake, but for some reason, their classy barmaid had a soothing effect on me.

There could have been 2 red cards. One was after about 15 mins when a two footed challenge by Matlock player would have seen red in Prem. but a talking to was all that was done. Glyn Cotton could have been sent if Matlock 5 had not spent his time rolling around holding his head and face but did not require attention. One or two Matlock fans going out were heard to say the had been fortunate given how much of the ball they had not had. Not to mention the tackle on Gav which Fev Rovers or Leeds Rhinos would have been proud, in the area of they don't count.

They're still at us, late onto into Wednesday evening, on the Matcock forum - seems all you need is a small mind, a keyboard & a tethered sheep when you live in Derbyshire.
