It's heartbreaking to share the news that Steve passed away earlier today after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rutherford AFC simply wouldn't exist without Steve and everyone associated with the club deeply misses him. I believe as a mark of respect tonight's game at Northbank was called off.

Steve was a legend and his Rutherford legacy will live on. Rest in peace Steve, I'll miss you desperately.

Sincerest condolences from everyone at KTFC.

A true football man who did wonders at his beloved Rutherford.

RIP Steve

Steve was Mr Rutherford's. I can remember refereeing the club back in their North Eastern Amateur League days back in the early 90s. He put his life into that club. Very sad news.

A sportsman, a top fella and a true gent who had time for everybody and will be sadly missed around the world of local football.

Thoughts especially to those who were close.

Steve was certainly the best.

When I first joined in the summer of 1992, it was a case of 16 blokes turning up for a game and getting changed in the old brick building. Now take a look around and what has been achieved by the Coxon family, headed by Steve, is simply staggering.

As expected the family are in mourning but when details are announced of Steve's funeral, I can share them for those interested. If you need any more info though, please send me a PM.

Regards
James

Indeed we do.

His legacy and spirit still surround Rutherford AFC and so that keeps us motivated. He was a real local hero.
