Seen an awful lot worse opening day performances over the years, than we saw on Saturday.

Plenty of honest endeavour, the group looked fit and got through the minutes well.

Jack in goal made some superb saves and came off his line more times in that game than he did most of last season ...... got lost in the crowd a couple of times but definitely quicker off his line.

Feared for the 2 centre halves after 30 mins but they certainly grew into the game - contending with knocks and strains but was off Hutchinson in the end.

Midfield closed down well enough but struggled to get any quality into Clarkie upfront, who also had a good game ...... better when Whitey is further up the pitch.

MOTM : Alex Walker ....... looked overly casual in the 2 games I saw him play in pre season but certainly wasn't that on Saturday ...... aggression, control, brought the ball out well and didn't seem afraid to have his say.

Roll on Willington when the fun really starts !

No shirkers - 100% effort on Saturday but lacked a cutting edge. Clarkie needed help up front, he battled manfully but when he made runs wide there was no-one filling the box. Would like to have seen Dan Maguire in a more central role for some of the game just behind Clarkie as he seemed a bit lost wide right, a shame Moley wasn't there as I think him and Clarkie could have given the Aycliffe defenders a very hard time. Thought the two young lads at the back did well, disagree however with Hodko as I thought young Callum Greaves was MOM, great effort from him, good positional sense, good in the tackle and comfortable on the ball. Thought everyone put a great shift in just a shame we couldn't nick an equaliser.
