Under 18s football to the wearside league is quite a jump, washington juniors tried it a few seasons ago in the durham alliance and got hammered most weeks.

Whilst the sentiment is correct, I suspect the above statement is not quite correct. The idea was to create a stepping stone into adult football for the U16 Washington AFC Pumas team. (Washington Juniors are a different club) They repeatedly won the Russell Foster Premier division.

Not one of the talented U16s dirtied his boots for Washington AFC that season. I helped out the team that played (as best a man in his forties can) and the truth is the players assembled were not juniors.

Wayne Rooney is expected to hold further talks with United officials on Thursday after travelling to durham to discuss a move to the w/l side.

Rooney has also applied to be a member of New Durham WMC and was in the Gilesgate Moor Hotel yesterday afternoon having a couple of pints.....he said the pub very much reminded him of the ones he frequents in Liverpool....same kind of clientele :P :P

I see that the Durham United senior team building is growing at a pace.

As I've said before- perhaps in other forums on this board- the current Durham United U18s are a formidable squad. Adding a few experienced heads would see a very competitive team.

Best of luck!

Hello mate are you involved at Durham united,if not do you know of a contact number for them.

Sorry, I'm not. I used to coach a team that played against their U18s. The fella I had the contact for is stepping down after a decade with that team.

The overall club secretary for the junior section was Matt Stevenson please DM me for his numbers.

I've a feeling they will make announcements after the Wearside league agm on Tuesday as I wouldn't think they could announce anything until they know what league they will be in next season
