Well it's good to see that the Durham FA seem to have finally realised and reacted to the decline of adult football on Saturdays.
It's been going on for around 15 to 20 years some kind of initiative is long overdue.

Following negotiations between the Durham County FA, the TWR Wearside League and Durham Alliance League both Leagues held Extraordinary General Meetings (EGM) this week to discuss a merger. This merger would result in the Durham Alliance League becoming a Development Division within the TWR Wearside League set up, which would allow a natural route for promotion into the FA National League System.
At their respective EGM’s clubs voted 100% in favour of the merger and proposed Management and Rule changes from the commencement of the 2018 – 2019 season.

This is excellent news, DFA need to be applauded for this, the teams below the W-L will be
Relishing the opportunity to take on the teams above them in the pyramid system, when they are promoted.

Considering the fact that the league below will be strengthened, by the relegation of the minnows in the W-L.

Not unlike the P-L and league one.

Exciting times ahead, well done all concerned.

No Hartlepool league anymore.

Just Wearside League, Crook & District League and Durham Alliance. Less than 50 teams altogether.

That's unbelievable when you think of the number of teams there were, and, more worryingly the amount of youth teams/players there are simply not progressing to adult football.

Does anyone remember the old NL banks youth league?
The fixtures mirrored the seniors sides each week, pretty sure most NL sides had a youth side back then on Saturdays rather than Sundays like nowadays

The JOC league a few years back on a Saturday afternoon. U18 league very competitive. That went down the tubes. Not sure if the Hetton youth league is still going last I heard it was down to not many teams. Teams even leagues falling off the radar. Is it money, players hard to come by. Who knows. Can't see how merging a couple of leagues is going to make a difference. If clubs are struggling this year financially then where's it going to come from next year. More travelling etc. Bigger committees. Hope it comes off but there's a lot more to it than just getting fifteen lads to turn up on a Saturday.

The top teams play a better standard of football than you'd expect. Some enter the Minor County cups and do relatively well. Yes, Sat 10:30 kos, each team is from a Church or Christian organisation. Teams must be run by Christians. Used to have a five Christians in each team rule, but that was dissolved.

The Hetton Youth league went ages ago. I think it was absorbed into the Johm and Haas JOC.

DCFA run the U23 league and I think there is an U21 league in Northumberland. They should be considered in this discussion as those players should be looking to progress into senior football.
