Redcar Athletic 0 v 0 Darlington Reserves - 5-4 to Redcar Athletic on penalties.
Most enjoyable 0-0 I'm likely to watch for some time with both teams playing exciting free flowing football. Both keepers on top form making excellent saves. Darlington Reserves keeper Joe Forbes did brilliant to turn Sam Webster's rising powerful shot round the left hand post for his best save. But for Redcar Athletic the fans have Immediately taken 16 year old Dan Simpkin to their hearts, when on making his debut today, he made a number of great saves including a double effort from Nathan Stevenson and then Joe Smith. What prospect this lad is and although we were all smiling like Cheshire Cats after the game in thecclubhouse afterwards no smile was bigger than that of his dad Steve. On the penalty shootout Dan Simpkin saved the 2nd Darlington Reserves penalty taken by Tom Young. Redcar Athletic scored all 5 of their penalties with Chris Bivens scoring the winning one. Fair result on 90 minutes although Darlington Reserves were wilting towards the end and admitted if it had gone to extra time they felt we would have gone on to win. Nice of them to say that. Overall both teams can be highly satisfied with their performances today. 0-0 it may have been but we'll worth the admission price. VFM given by both teams.
