GUISBOROUGH STATEMENT – APPEAL TO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Guisborough Town FC has lodged an appeal with the Football Association against the club’s relegation.
Last week the FA announced that three clubs – including Guisborough – would be relegated from Division One of the Ebac Northern League.
In a statement today club chairman Don Cowan said:
“We were very disappointed with the FA’s decision. We have formally lodged our appeal and hope for a favourable outcome.
“As part of the FA’s annual review of leagues, they decided that the Ebac Northern League should have 21 teams and 22 teams in its first and second divisions respectively, despite the fact that the league recommended that it should be 22 and 21.
“The FA has granted reprieves to a number of other clubs at Step 5, with most leagues at our level operating with either 20 or 22 teams in their top division. The Northern League and one other would be the only leagues with their top division operating with fewer teams than its lower division.”
