This Saturday the 3rd of November 2012, we extend a hearty welcome to the supporters, players and officials of Shildon to the KGV in the third game already between the Railwaymen and the Priorymen so far this season.

Last season we exited the FA Cup with a defeat to Shildon and were not overly thrilled when we were scheduled to play in this year’s competion. Despite a well earned draw at theirs on 25th August with one goal by each side, they came to the KGV and won 6-0 in a not so close encounter. So a loss and a draw maybe we can achieve a win today to complete the set of possible outcomes?

The two teams have met 36 times with Guisborough Town coming out tops with 23 wins, 4 draws and only been beaten 9 times. Our first encounter was on 5th September 1981 in the FA Cup here at the KGV and we were in the Midland Counties League with Shildon leading the Northern League. We scored 2 goals within 5 minutes by Mark Riley and John Hemlin. A third was added in the second half to make it 3-1 to Guisborough Town.

Joe Peel scored a hat trick in our 5-0 League (1993/94) win and so did Mark Davis in our 5-3 League victory in 1988/89 but some years earlier in 1985/86, the all time Guisborough Town scorer Mark Davis scored 4 goals in the 6-1 win.

The last time we beat Shildon, Mikey Roberts and Jamie Poole hit the backs of the net in our 2-1 win earlier this year 29th February. The Roberts/Poole partnership may soon be back in action.

Players unavailable this game are Austin Johnston, Bryan Stewart and Michael Jameson. Injury worries to Craig Bishop, Nathan Evans, Paul Roddam, Gary and Lewis Wood.

Returning to the squad are Mark Casey and Liam McPhillips.

League Stats

All welcome so bring a friend or 3

Bloody hell man, not the result I wanted to hear on my birthday. :(
Hope things can be turned round rather quickly, our lack of goals is becoming a concern.

Saturday 3rd November 2012

Guisborough Town 0 Shildon 3

Escritt, Poole, Bishop, Bythway (lee) , Guy, Wood (gary), Wood (lewis), Gell, Evans, Bythway (luke), O'Sullivan.
Subs: Foster, Rowe, Hardy, Hodgson, Dixon.

As the team sheet shows we had to field a depleted side no Johnston, Roddam, McPhillips, Steel, Casey, McPhillips, Jameson, Harris, Matthews able to be selected. We did have two keepers (which thankfully did not need as Ben played the entire game), two development squad members and player manager.

We started off the brightest with Gary Wood heading over from a corner in the second minute and it was 10 minutes before Ben Escritt had to use his feet to save. Gary Wood, the king of the midfield today, selected out the correct passes but just after half an hour Ben Wood managed to turn his marker and with only Escritt to beat took the lead. Great defending by Poole, Bishop and captain Lee Bythway had held off the challenges up to this point and they made sure no more goals were scored leading to the interval.

There was still hope though and we actually had the upper hand for long periods with some excellent running by Joel Guy, Liam O'Sullivan, Luke Bythway, Adam Gell and Lewis Wood. Nothing came of the balls into the danger areas though and Poole and the rest of the defence could not stop Jamie Owens who collected the ball in a crowded penalty area and doubled the visitors lead. It seemed to be all over on 70 minutes after a movement involving at least 10 passes ended with Jamie Owens who shot from a tight angle and made it 3-0.

Chris brought on the developement player from the under 21s Jordan Rowe to replace a weary Evans and he showed what a fesh pair of legs could do with some penetrating runs and some threatening crosses into the box but no one on hand on make it count unfortunately.

The sponsors chose Gary Wood as man of the match but if there was a "one to watch" award my vote would go to Jordan Rowe in the quarter of hour he played.

Where was Stewart today?

I know we've had a string of difficult matches recently, but no question about it, "nothing came of the balls into the danger areas" and "no one on hand to make it count" is starting to become a depressingly familiar story I'm afraid. I wasn't there today, yet I can imagine how the game unfolded with these comments.

Whether we have a strong squad on the day or not, we really need to work on improving our firepower up front, because if we don't look like scoring, the chances are we won't do. I actually believe we do have talented lads who can get goals for us, in fact earlier results this season have proved this. So maybe we're just lacking confidence right now or need a bit of luck to go our way...whatever it is, c'mon Chardy, we absolutely smashed a side currently racing away with the league not so long ago, lets get back to looking threatening in our attacks and battling out victories!! :D

MORNING EDIT - Half the time I post I've usually had a bottle of wine.

Chardy can only play who is available on the day and yesterday those options were very greatly reduced.

Keep the Faith Rob

Fingers crossed we can finally find the net again against Stokesley in mid-week, a couple goals and of course a win would be nice, although I'm sure Stokesley will prove to be no walkover. Our next 4 league matches are all against sides below us in the league. Hopefully we'll have a fair few lads back and start to pick up points once more. But we've got to start turning our good spells and tidy possession into genuine goal scoring opportunities.

i thought the 1st half both sides were pretty poor. 2nd half shildon controlled the game completely.

Chris Hardy post match comments

Today we welcomed Shildon to the KGV for the second time this season.

First half saw the visitors take the lead in the 30th minute, that was how the scoring ended on the half, 0:1.

Second half, knowing that a good start to the half would have given us a chance of taking points from the game we were very quickly two goals down and from that point there didn't seem like any way back into the game, as it turned out Shildon added another goal to their tally, making the final score Guisborough 0:3 Shildon.

On reflection with 9 players missing today this proved too much for the necessary level of performance required to get anything out of the game, against a good Shildon side.

MOM; Gary Wood

Apologies to everyone over the lack of updating on the Town website, my internet is up an running again, so the website will be brought up to date over the next couple of days. Development side pages will also be updated.

Cheers.
