This Saturday 20th October with a 3pm Kick Off, we welcome the Mighty Bay to the KGV and the nickname is pretty apt at the moment as the stats below will show.

The game is just a day short of exactly a year as it was 19th October 2011 they last visited us and won 4-0 but we did try and make amends when we went to Hillheads on Tuesday 20th March 2012 and earn a 2-2 draw with our goals from James Decosemo (now in the USA) and Billy Blackford.

League Stats:

Whitley Bay

played 12, won 6, drawn 3, lost 3 = 21pts
5th in table
Won last 4 games
Unbeaten in 6
Scored in every game
Highest Winning Away Score 4-1 against Bishop Auckland
Scored 27 goals
3 clean sheets in last 3 games

Guisborough Town

Played 10, won 7, drawn 0, lost 3 = 21pts
8th in table
Won last 2 games
Scored in last 8 games
Highest Home winning score 4-1 against Darlington 1883

Injury worries to Gary Wood, Paul Roddam, Craig Bishop and Nathan Evans.

Returning to the squad Lee Bythway and Joel Guy.

Come along to the KGV and bring a friend or 3

Saturday 20th October 2012

Guisborough Town 1 Whitley Bay 1 HT
Guisborough Town 1 Whitley Bay 3 FT

Last year 146 spectators watched the Might Bay beat Guisborough Town 4-0. Todays attendance was 267 but the result was still a loss to Guisborough as Whitley Bay achieved their 5th win a row.

Guisborough were the better team in the first half with most of the play in Bay's half with Whitley Bay rarely threatening the Guisborough defence. On 18 minutes against the run of play a long found Paul Chow in the final third and with only the keeper to beat he opened the scoring. Guisborough stuck to the plan and kept pushing and they were rewarded when Liam O'Sullivan's long ball reached Lee Bythway who controlled the ball well in the box and shot past Kyle Downey on 37 minutes. The Priorymen should have taken the lead 3 minutes later but Austin Johnston's header was saved on the line and the ball fell to Luke whose shot was also saved off the line to concede a corner.

In the second half Whitley Bay took the lead on 53 minutes when Paul Robinson was brought down to concede a penalty which ex Whitby player Ashley Davis hit the back of the net. Liam McPhillips was struggling and was replaced by Bryan Stewart with 20 minutes left. Plenty of Guisborough chances but Kyle Hayes collected every high ball with ease as well as the numerous shots. With 8 minutes remaining a contentious offside call led to the free kick finding Paul Robinson to hit the bal past Ben Escritt. Guisborough were unable to reduce the arrears despite good efforts by Gary Wood (Man of the Match), Austin Johnston, Bryan Stewart and Lewis Wood and the game finished 3-1 to Whitley Bay.

Gutted about today john,an evenly contested game with both sides creating good chances...i think the dubious penalty decision changed the game but still think a point wouldnt of been unfair on us....never mind, whitley bay are a really good side and will no doubt be up there come the end of the season....now to another nightmare trip to carlisle on tues :?

A tight, entertaining game. On another day...

My take on things here:

Nice report Mark.

For 45 minutes, Guisborough Town more than matched one of the best step 5 non-league sides in England. That was an awesome performance by our lads. In the second half, we seem to run out of gas and Whitley turned on the pressure. But...forget the result and the defeat...in front of a decent crowd, Guisborough Town put on a more than decent performance today. Well done lads, and hard luck. :D

true. i did think though that the 1st half was the best i've seen us play in the last couple of seasons- we were that good!
it was a shame we weren't quite able to match bay in the 2nd half.

Only finishing touch missing the lads created plenty of chances, felt a bit like the Bedlington game. Not complaining though as we are playing very well at the moment and had injuries yesterday, happy days.

Tough trip to Celtic Nation this week, never easy midweek games over there.
