After three home games in a week it is time to get back on the road and travel to Penrith this Tuesday 11th September. After winning the last three games the lads will be aiming to keep the run going to gain valuable points to keep us in the top half of the table as after Tuesday's game we will be playing Cup games in the Vase and League Cup.

Last year we went to Penrith 3 times and won 2 of these. We also won the Home tie so were rightly very pleased to win 3 out of 4 especially as Penrith are a hard team to beat away.

We scored 7 goals in the 4 games but out of the scorers there is only one still playing for Guisborough Town. That is the top scorer so far Austin Johnston who no doubt will be wanting to continue his scoring or at least making life difficult for the Penrith defence.

Injury worries to Paul Roddam, Ryan Foster, Michael Jameson, Lewis Wood and Bryan Stewart.
Returning to the squad Mark Casey

League Stats:

Penrith

Played 4, won 2, lost 2 = 6pts
12th in table
6pts out of 12
Scored 8 goals
Top Scorer Steven Rigg with 5 goals (he scored 4 in the game against Celtic Nation)
Lost last home game 2-1 against Hebburn Town
Lost last 2 home games

Guisborough Town

Played 4, won 3, lost 1 = 9pts
9th in table
9 pts out of 12
Scored 8 goals
Top Scorer Austin Johnston with 4 goals
Won last away game 3-1 against Hebburn Town
Unbeaten away

Best time to visit Penrith in a mid week game is when the weather is nice so why not take the trip down the A66 on a late summer's evening.

Bring a car or 3

Shame it's mid-week (AGAIN!) this one, as always a decent place to visit.
Hope not too many of the lads are missing due to the travelling, coz we can get something here!

Start the car up, Keith! :D

An impressive second half display and 3 more points for The Priorymen again tonight! :D

Penrith tackled really well and gave no quarter, but after a rather untidy first half, Guisborough came out much stronger in the 2nd. We had a bit more urgency and battle about us, I thought, and Luke's goal was very well taken. Ozzy came close to doubling the lead and towards the end Penrith tested our defences, but there was no more goals and once more we held on for a 1-0 victory. We can (and have) played better than this but it's still an impressive away win!

I'd settle for a respectable mid-table position. Fact is we can't compete when there's ££££'s flying around between the 'big' clubs. But even so, we've had a great start! :D

Wednesday 11th September 2012

Penrith 0 Guisborough Town 0 HT
Penrith 0 Guisborough Town 1 FT (Luke Bythway)

Escritt, Roddam, Bishop, Bythway (lee), Gell, Wood (gary), Wood (lewis), Johnston, Evans, Bythway (luke), McPhillips.
Subs: Guy (on for Evans 66), Dixon, Steel (on for McPhillips 75), Hodgson, Casey

The Priorymen headed off over to Cumbria glad it is an early summer evening rather than the middle of winter and glad they had just won the last 3 games and were hoping to keep the run going. They had nudged into the top ten of the table due to 3 League wins out of 4 starting with Hebburn away and two home victories against Darlington 1883 and Newcastle Benfield.

The first half saw a lot of possession and lots of passing the ball around especially between Lee Bythway, Craig Bishop and Paul Roddam in the visitor's half. The two Woods in Gary and Lewis made some good runs too but Penrith came the closest on 25 minutes and the older Wood Gary had to clear the ball from the line. Guisborough finished the stronger of the two teams although the scoreline was still unchanged since the first whistle.

The only goal of the game came when Nathan Evans put through Luke Bythway who collected the ball and sent the ball past the keeper on 64 minutes. Penrith continued to push and push and so did Guisborough Town and it was a very evenly contested affair with the action swiftly changing ends through the second half.

Chris Hardy reflected "this was a game that has proven to always be a tough trip and this game was no different, the lads put in a gritty performance to come away with all three points and make that four wins out of four".

The 12 points earned takes the Priorymen up the table but with the next two games being the Vase and League Cup, Guisborough Town can only watch as other teams can dislodge them from the seventh spot.

Penrith will probably feel hard done by as both teams worked hard but they just could not break the defence and the one goal settled the match.

Thanks to Penrith for their hospitality.
