Firstly we would like to congratulate Hebburn Town on their promotion at the end of last season and we are looking forward to visiting them again in a Summer fixture.

Last time we visited them was in our promotion winning season and the second League game of that season on 11th August 2010. We had beaten Horden CW 5-1 the previous game on 7th August 2010 and on the score sheet that day was Luke Bythway with a brace of goals and Ozzie Johnston. Four days later and we were travelling to Hebburn on a warm summer evening and won 3-0 and this time a brace of goals from Ozzie Johnston and one from Luke Bythway.

We are pleased to say that both players are still Priorymen and hopefully both will play and both may even score again this Saturday.

Joel Guy will not be available but returning from injury we have Gary Wood, Craig Bishop and Paul Roddam.

There will be a late fitness test needed for Luke Bythway who picked up an injury in one of the preseason games.

Even though we gained promotion in the 2010/11 season we were beaten 6 times in Division two that season and the Hebburn team put 4 goals past us at the KGV in January 2011 in a 4-1 result with Gary Wood scoring the only goal for Guisborough Town that day.

Hopefully we will get the points but until the 90 minutes have elapsed it really is anyone's game. I will be there to watch and hope it will be a Guisborough Town victory of course and we may maintain our position as 11th in the table or even move into the top ten

Saturday 18th August 2012

Hebburn Town 1 Guisborough Town 0 HT
Hebburn Town 1 Guisborough Town 3 FT (Gell, Johnston, Lewis Wood)

Escritt, Roddam, O'Sullivan, Bythway (Lee), Casey, Bishop, Jameson, Johnston, Gell, Steel, McPhillips. Subs: Connor, Wood (Gary) (on for Jameson 76), Harris, Blackford (on for McPhillips 86), Wood (Lewis) (on for Gell 78)

The last time we visited Hebburn was in our promotion winning season and the second League game of that season on 11th August 2010 on a warm summer evening and won 3-0 with a brace of goals from Austin Johnston and one from Luke Bythway.

Last week in our nine goal FA Cup thriller, Austin scored the winning goal after Adam Gell started his goal tally off with two, Billy Blackford scored and debutant Lewis Wood coming off the bench to open his card with Guisborough Town.

The game at Hebburn on Saturday 18th August saw the visitors go behind with a header from Mark Rasmussen who got his head to a Liam McBryde cross just before the half time whistle. The second half was a more focussed affair and within 5 minutes Adam Gell almost levelled when he beat the offside trap but keeper Dan Regan got to the ball in time.

Ten minutes later and Nathan Steel with a hand ball joined several others in the referees book in a half littered with cautions. Shortly after the hour mark, Austin Johnston beat a few defenders and ran along the goal line from the wing only for Dan Regan to try and smother the ball but Adam Gell was there to tap it in at close range. With a quarter of an hour left it was time for Johnston’s head to make an impact and his header from 6 yards out gave the Priorymen the lead. Lewis Wood joined the game in the late stages replacing Adam Gell as well as Gary Wood who had come on earlier for Michael Jameson and Billy Blackford replaced Liam McPhillips towards the end with 5 minutes of normal time.

All three substitutes added some extra quality and energy into the squad with fresh legs and there was no surprise that several minutes of added time was signalled to compensate for the dishing out of yellow cards. Late into the added time, super sub Lewis Wood doubled his goal count with a header as sweet as a candy floss sandwich and the result remained 3-1 to Guisborough Town who now look forward to the first home game of the campaign when League Champions Spennymoor Town visit the KGV on Wednesday night.

Spot on Gary - Spennymoor have been League Champions for past three years running and they have earned the right to be referred to in that way as it is a matter of fact they are the last League Champions

I was about to give my take on the game when I saw Chardy's excellent summary on http://www.northernleague.org.
Senible comments from Chris as usual - have a look.
Nothing much for me to add, altho' I will say:

Ossie was Man of the Match by a distance.
His tenacity was the main factor in the first goal and following his headed winner against Northallerton, it was another excellent header for our second goal.

I thought Steely had a very good game - especially the second half.
His willingness to hold the ball and lay off to the midfield was a big factor in our midfield running the game in the second half.

This team of our shows great resiliance and determination - and we 've been doing so for the past three seasons
Even when things aren't going our way, we aim to get the ball on the deck and play football.

We know that Spennymoor will be a different proposition.
But I'm looking forward already to welcoming Spennymoor and their excellent travelling support to KGV on Wednesday evening.

Apologies John, I misread your statement, indeed Spenny are the champs, I thought you had meant champs elect.
On another note where has James Decosmo gone this season, is it a scholarship to America as I can't see him going to another NL club?

No poblems :) although personally Spennymoor do have my vote for the Champions again this year although we all know it is a very tough division and what with the extra games we should be in for an exciting season.

We had a good season last year in our return to the First Division and our aim now is to finish even higher than last year and just do as well as we can :)

James has indeed got a scholarship in America and we wish him well.

Ozzy was superb but Steel did indeed have a very good game too, his ball control is excellent. I must have shouted 'played, Steel!' loads of times. Whenever the ball is aimed at him, much more often than not he'll use it than lose it. The Hebburn lads had little option in the end but to resort to niggling yet blatant fouls, and yet we still looked dangerous with him on the ball. Plus he would have been clean through for a chance of a goal of his own, but for the ref ridiculously ignoring the advantage rule. I'm liking the effort Steel is putting into his game and hopefully with a bit more confidence he'll bag a couple here and there for us too.
