Peter Morris Memorial Trophy

Thornaby 0 Guisborough Town 1 (McPhillips)

Team from: Dixon, Jack Connor, McPhillips, Lee Bythway, Luke Bythway, Roddam, Gell, Guy, Jameson, Blackford, Earl, Wood, Ryan Foster, Sam Hodgson, Harris, Decosemo, Lewis, Wood.

All the above took part in this game at some point with Daniel Dixon keeping goal the first half and young Sam Hodgson wearing the gloves in the second spell.

The second Peter Morris Memorial Trophy at the wonderfully renovated Thornaby ground with the sun shining on the Peter Morris stand. His widow Gillian and former work mates were there to remember Peter and as Gill said it is great that this game is played in his honour and Peter's name will always be on the trophy and will be remembered for all the great work he did with Thornaby.

Peter was always determined to keep Northern League football at Teasdale Park and today the Guisborough team were determined to retain the trophy but in a much closer match than last year as both teams had players who were determined to break into the regular squad. That was a recipe for a competitive game and each team had chances to score although Guisborough Town had the most but had to rely on a last minute header from Liam McPhillips to bring back the trophy for another year.

Thanks as always to the Thornaby officials who are always a pleasure to meet up with for a chat and drink.

I am sure both teams are looking forward to our League Cup encounter on Wednesday 19th September at the KGV.

The assist for the goal was a pinpoint cross without the aid of a sat nav delivered by Gary Wood. :)
