Obviously it is early days but when you consider what happened at the end of the season, when the new Ashington management team took most of the players to Hirst Welfare, you have to give credit where credit is due and obviously their current manager must have worked hard through the summer.
When you look at the current table and the side having already played five games, four away from home, to be undefeated it gives the side and the club a platform to build upon.
Sides like Benfiield, Bedlington, West Allotment and Whitley Bay have given Northumberland a great started over our Durham compatriots.
Obviously before the season started there seemed to be a bit of stick flying about, on this forum, about the new West Allotment Celtic manager but sometimes people are judged by past reputations and people can change if given enough encouragement.
But as I said it is early days but whilst it lasts the club will no doubt enjoy it and would also support the manager when things go wrong, which it will somewhere along the line.
When you consider the perilous position Gary Middleton got himself and the club into, just over a year ago, he was allowed the time to put things back on track and the side improved immeasurably on the games that I saw.

And to be fair Barleymow every time we have a game at Walker he sends me a text wishing us well and after the game as well. The players who are left at Walker think very highly of him, Andy and Tomma.

Ahem, Ashington are second in the league. Just thought I'd mention that since we're talking about how well Northumberland teams have started the season. Especially as Benfield, West Allotment and Whitley Bay are in Tyne & Wear, not Northumberland.
