BILLINGHAM TOWN v WILLINGTON PREVIEW

Town face Willington in another captivating league fixture this Saturday afternoon. Billingham have encountered Northallerton, Thornaby and Heaton Stannington at Bedford Terrace in recent weeks and remained unbeaten. Willington will provide another test as Town continue to cement their place at the top of the table.

FOCUS ON WILLINGTON:
After a sluggish start to the season, Willington have steadily crept up the table and sit in sixth position. They’re in good form and have kept four clean sheets in their last eight games with only one defeat in that run. The squad contains plenty of experience and talent. Matty Moffat (see below), Dean Thexton (OTW Xtra on twitter), Jeff Smith and Craig Ruddy all provide a goal threat. Smith was once a professional at Bolton Wanderers. Striker Connor Winter gained promotion with Billingham Synthonia back in 2016/17 and scored in this fixture last season. They have an excellent keeper in Lewis Graham while midfielder Kyle Wren figured for Brandon United for several years. Scott Oldfield recently arrived from Tow Law Town and Bradley Burns from Shildon. Lewis Milner is a tall, strong central defender but has been sent off on several occasions this season.

ONE TO WATCH: MATTY MOFFAT
A former West Auckland legend who helped them reach Wembley in the FA Vase. Turned down a move to Billingham Town last season deciding Willington was closer to home. Although advancing in years, Moffat is a lethal striker at this level.

RECENT RESULTS:
Willington 4-1 Durham (Thexton 3, Wren) - EAM Cup
Willington 2-0 West Allotment (Moffat 2)
Willington 1-0 Esh Winning (Lee) - League Cup

Willington 4-1 Bedlington (Milner, Winter, Smith, Thexton)

Last Season: Billingham Town 0 Willington 2

TALKING TOWN:
Oliver Simpson has recovered from injury and will compete for the number one shirt with Lewis McDonald. Samuel Naylor, who figured twice before a three month stint in Sweden has returned to the club but he is still awaiting international clearance. Stephen Oakley will be rested once again as he recuperates from a troublesome knee injury. Luke Hogan is also carrying a knock and will have a fitness test. Central midfielder, Matty Hughes has left the club by mutual consent but there could be a new arrival over the weekend.
