GUISBOROUGH TOWN V BILLINGHAM TOWN PREVIEW

Town are back in action on Wednesday night against Guisborough Town in the League Cup. It has been a while since these two sides have faced each other in a competitive fixture. If the tie is all square after ninety minutes then a penalty shoot out will take place to decide who reaches the third round.

FOCUS ON GUISBOROUGH:
Guisborough have been involved in some high scoring games this season but they recently lost their main striker, Nathan Steel to Shildon. Several other players have moved on in recent weeks. Defender Benjamin Jackson and Ben Hugill joined Thornaby while Thomas Bligh moved onto Billingham Synthonia. On Tuesday, winger Alex Bruton was put on the transfer list. The current squad contains two players who won promotion with the Synners back in 2017. Central defender Matthew Crust will be their linchpin and John Seaton is a tidy, hard working midfielder. Fellow central midfielder Mark Robinson will try and supply the ammunition. Striker, Anthony Hume will be a threat from aerial situations, as will goalkeeper Jordan Nixon if required! Bryan Close is another player with plenty of experience. Sam Webster left Redcar Athletic for the Priorymen but is cup tied.

ONE TO WATCH: BRADLEY MILLS
Highly thought of attacking full-back who recently scored twice at Runcorn Town in the FA Vase. Previously played under manager Gary Forster’s tutelage for the development side and also for Spanish outfit, Deportivo Merino. Can also play as an attacking right sided midfielder.

RECENT RESULTS:
Guisborough 0-1 Dunston
Seaham Red Star 0-4 Guisborough (Webster 2, Lawson, Hume)
Guisborough 2-4 Runcorn Town (Hume, Robinson) - FA Vase
Runcorn Town 3-3 Guisborough (Hume, Mills 2) - FA Vase
Ryhope 3-1 Guisborough (Steel)
Guisborough 1-3 Stockton (Steel)
*Guisborough 1-1 Redcar (Holdsworth) - League Cup
Guisborough 3-1 Seaham Red Star (Steel 2, Close)
*Guisborough won on penalties

TALKING TOWN:
Ash Lavan is cup-tied having played in Guisborough’s penalty kick victory against Redcar Athletic in the previous round. Mark Dixon and Michael Duff are still out with respective suspensions but Jamie Davis returns after his one match ban. With Oliver Simpson and Jack Patton on the injury list, Lewis Macdonald has signed from Marske United. Macdonald recently featured for Marske against Redcar Newmarket in the North Riding Cup. Town’s first keeper of the season, Samuel Naylor has returned to the country after a spell playing in Sweden.
