Would a club normally have proof they sent a player a letter ?

Its 2018...Surely these days the "letter" would be in email format? If not then the club are mugs if they didnt send it recorded delivery

and only relevant surely if the contract provided that a written confirmation of extension was required - which would be very silly. Normally one would word a contract for a fixed term but then automatically renewing until terminated by xxxxx days notice.

I would imagine that by putting someone on a contract and guaranteeing them payment every week, they would expect compensation for when a player wants to leave

So is this an illegal approach then?

No sign of Curtis on the registrations list for North Shields on the registrations page of Northern League.
Did he ever actually sign for them ??, seemed to be a lot of huffing and puffing from a few when news was released but not a lot since ???

Apparantly there was a picture of him signing on their social media and he said he had signed, seen lots of players announced by clubs but don’t seem to be registered on the site straight away, he must be at North Shields if no one has said anything else about it.

On Shields site today that they are unable to sign him, due to still being a Morpeth player,( say they were misinformed about him being a free agent). Shields say Morpeth wanted too much money to release him from his contract, despite Curtis being 'desperate' to return to Shields, so clearly they are going to keep a player at their club who does not wish to be there, does not seem the best way to go on, on the face of it.

Doubt anyone held a gun to his head when he signed the contract.

Hmmm . well there was some very harsh words conveyed on twitter at the time he was supposed to re sign for Shields . Dont know if there would be any way back for the lad.
Does that mean that Shields have made a illegal approach of a contracted played , and if so what could be the repercussions for Shields because it certainly seems that it has destroyed any relationship between player and his contracted club.

Ridiculous to think that Morpeth should offer someone a contract and then when it doesn’t suit the player anymore just rip it up!

Absolutely irrelevant, if two parties agree to a contract, then they have to stick to that unless both parties agree to walk away from it. Unless the contract has been broken by one the parties, you can’t expect one side to walk away from it, that’s the whole point of a contract!
