Well done to Shildon AFC tonight, it was a decent game, was nice to see a few of the lads who work at Shildon and the ex-Spenny players as well

Good luck to Shildon in the next round and for the season :)

P.S Look at that Morpeth score - wow

Taking nothing away from Morpeth who were without doubt the better side however it wasn't anywhere near a full strength Blyth side, 9 changes were made from team that played Boston United on Saturday.
Manager had stated his intentions of fielding a team of 'fringe player', Reserve team players.

....“My priorities lie elsewhere and we have a big game this weekend against Darlington. This competition – especially moving forward – is a reserve team competition for us, that’s why we introduced a reserve team at Blyth Spartans'.

Well if a reserve team gets beat by this score to a team 3 leagues below god help them if they get called into first team.

I think the majority on this site realise that Morpeth play 3 leagues lower but are probably only a league lower in terms of quality.

Yes they may be higher in quality but getting beat by 6 goals wud suggest there reserves arent anywere near first team. Wud be interesting to know how many reserves have actually featured in 2st team games

The Reserves play in the Northern Alliance 2nd Division.

Believe 4 Reserve team players have 'made up the bench' at times this season when numbers have been short, think 2 have made it on as late subs; Karl Lazzari & Jack Butler.

Absolutely spot on sir. Hopefully with the new regulations there will be an adjustment in the standard of the leagues and no more big fish in small pools

Reserves playing in 3rd tier of n.a. isnt going to get them ready for conf north. I wud have thought loaning to n.l. clubs a far better way

Is that why virtually every Club in the National League runs a reserve side :?: Because its actually better to loan players out....doubt it

Its the highest level the club were able to gain them entry too, when the Reserve team was set up in the summer.

Having a Reserve team who are all out on loan at Northern League sides isn't having a 'Reserve team' it's having a massive squad.
We already have and have had 'squad members' who are out on loan at NL clubs, the Reserves have their own management, players and training arrangements all of which is done under the watchful eye of the first team management and club.

The Reserves team was set up to aid the first team in several way such as developing young players (several have signed National League forms and made the match day squad) and having a team where players who were returning from injury could play (which has happened quite often).

Anyone who knows anything about it would know that the reserve team is a new team so started at that level, I’m sure over a period of time they will climb the leagues as they become more established.

It’s also pretty obvious that your reserve team won’t be able to compete at the same level as your first team, but individuals may.
