Chris Swailes will be 42 years old in 2 weeks time, I played against him as a young player when he was at Cleveland Hall and with him in some representative sides (many moons ago) and he was quality then and still quality now, playing at this level at 42 is some achievement.

Real Quakers - before you post try to remember the theme of the topic - he's 42 year old. What do you expect? I've seem many pros come down to the NL in late 30s and not stand out. To be 42 and play competitively at the team that won the Vase last year is a hell of an achievement.
Tony Robinson was a very cultured player for a lot of years at Hebburn. Played at his own pace in later years as he was usually one step ahead of the opposition and on most occasions his own team.

I expected him to be top quality considering the things said about him, however I was just pointing out that he wasn't very outstanding versus us. Maybe time is catching up with him this season. Time waits for no man.

Indeed it is a hell of an achievement.

At the age of 42 he didn't look out of place in either game or any game this season.

Admittedly his form hasnt reached the standards of last season, but this could easily be due to dunstons overall form.

Going back years, wasn't Alan Foggon in his 40s when playing in NL? or did he just look that old?

Did Alan Shoulder play NL at a canny age or have I got it wrong :?[/quote]

It was late 70s early 80's Foggon played. Consett & Whitley Bay IIRC and I think he would only be in his early to mid 30's.

Alan Shoulder was definately playing in mid-40's.

I remember that day. He was fantastic.

Chris Swailes was immense when I watched him at Wembley - best player on the pitch by a mile that day.
Other golden oldies must include Neil Hodgson (Whitby/Marske) and John Milner (Bedlington).

Can't have been far off though by the time he eventually finished playing, surely.

Thanks for that, it was in the realms of my rapidly declining memory banks, so wasnt sure......

Also was wondering if David Speedy played at NL level as I know he was living in the area and I played against him in the over 40s league ...

Neither do I, with their website being rubbish, and a year out of date.
