Well have we got over Saturday yet? id put it out there that the look on that charvers face as Duggy, erm, got involved was up there with an open top bus parade around Ashington with the fa cup itself after winning the final! god im pleased weve seen the last of them this season at Woodhorn Lane, although im not pleased about going out the cup as weve made it our thing lately but even after a great effort against a very good but unlikeable West Auckland side, out we certainly are and lets get on with it -starting against MARSKE UNITED, Tuesday, 7-30 at home. Making them come up here on a Tuesday nonsensically in my view means theres unlikely to be many fans to argue with so wel concentrate on football this time.
Its only just over a fortnight since we played and hammered Marske in the Fa cup( yep, forgotten already). A Wally inspired 4-1 win so typical of our very early season fluency, at times we cut the seasiders apart when the pressure was off, however injuries have savaged a smallish squad as we all well know and a suspension and at least 2 carrying knocks on Saturday mean we are down to the bones and Marske may smell revenge, but as i say it works both ways as god knows if theyl have any no shows for another midweek trip to Northumberland. We need 3 points as bad luck or not we have now lost 3 games in 4 since the game down at Mount Pleasant and with another home game coming up we need to get back on track and this in all honesty is a team out of form and luck as well. After doing well to stay up last year in their first season up, Marske made some interesting signings pre season. England u17 man Kieran Edwards was joined by Curtis Collatine and Nathan Porritt both ex academy players at Boro. Porritt was excellent in his 3 games, scoring the winner in the only win so far v Newton Aycliffe and after a trial at Hartlepool, hes joined League 2 Burton Albion. Hes gone, but Marske have replaced him with Danny Lambert a midfielder who played 13 times in the conference last year. Hel try and feed the wily David Onions who is the real goal threat. hes done the rounds down there but is a finisher, as is Danny Brunskill. Marske are struggling though, a not unexpected 3-0 loss at Darlington has been followed by a 1-0 loss to Aycliffe side on saturday for whom it was there first points in 6 games. in between was the cruncher. They faced Morpeth in the FA vase at home and let slip a lead to draw 2-2. As i eluded to earlier they then had a replay at the Craik Park aquadome and after a 1-1 draw after extra time they lost on pens to Division 2 Town and the extra late finish to boot . Its fair to say they want this fixture like morpeth want them traffic lights!
Right ,so its a perfect opportunity to get on form again, but who knows whol turn up and any repeat of last year when we underestimated them and got lucky with a late equaliser will see the losing run continue.
But seriously here, haway, do we really want to lose to a team Morpeth beat?!
See yas!
