I know that everyone is entitled to an opinion of who should be played where in the team and what formation is best but not everyone is prepared to do the thankless task of the Northern League Manager. Just to make you aware that Burto in his position of Team Manager at Marske has never picked up a penny in expenses. Quite the reverse in fact. Many fans will only see time spent with the club on Saturdays or midweek games but will be unaware of the time a manger spends organising training, looking at the oposition, running the eye over possible new players and checking on the availability of the current squad for the next game.
When he was offered the 'job' his target was to get the club promoted within 3 seasons. He delivered this along with a couple of very good, memorable FA Vase runs. Consolidation in the First Division has not quite been acheived but I am sure the club will stay up.
I think its time to have faith in your manager and his dedication to his position and in his ability to pick a team.

I agree with all of that Mark.

Paul ( assisted by you ) has done a great job and delivered exactly what he promised but this seems to be your response to the previous thread in which Paul is quoted as saying 'our fans have criticised these players' ( something that just isn't true ).

Marske fans turn up in numbers home and away and always support the team and yes, as in every club, some of them ( including me ) think they know what the team should be and in what formation they should play, something that is always easy in hindsight.

Heres hoping that we help cement our place in this division with a win on saturday against Stokesley.

Regards

Jimbo

Jim
I'm just stating that I think Paul is the best person to decide on who plays, where they play and what the overall formation of the team should be. Its Paul who takes training and finds out whos got knocks or wont be available or is going through a bit of a sticky spell form wise. He has got to take all this into account plus the quality of the opposition before deciding what the starting 11 should be. Players (and you will well know this Jimbo!) will want to play even when they arent 100% (except Orms!) and sometimes youve got to suss this out. I am absoslutely certain that the run of defeats will have gutted Burto 10 times more than anyone at the club as I see how much work he puts into the job. What Id like to see is the fans getting behind my mate from now until the end of the season as its OK patting him on the back when things are good but right now maybe he needs a bit of a lift.

That's fair comment Mark.

There were over 60 Marske fans at Bishops last saturday who got behind the team and management which must have inspired them to play so well and gain a much needed point and I'm sure the same will apply tomorrow against Stokesley.

Thats a great turnout and I am sure it lifted the team last Saturday. Lets hope we have a good turnout on Saturday against a much improved Stokesley!

Appreciate the comments Rilo, and totally understand where you are coming from. As one of the fans who travelled to Bishops, and plenty of grounds this season, we are behind the team. I would have taken 4th bottom this season to stay up but we've gone much better than that. It's a human thing that fans get frustrated when things were going really well and then we start getting beat. And to have players on the bench who the fans have witnessed and think should be on the pitch is natural.

I, and hopefully most fans, see what Burto puts in. I know he is gutted when the team lose as he has put in more to that game than we have with £5 on the gate. But regardless of that football will always be about opinions and the fans will have their say. For all it is only Northern League, we all feel the pain and express it rightly or wrongly in certain ways.

I believe in the players. I believe in Burto and Cappy. And the team is worse off that you aren't in the set up. What was hard to accept in all honesty was the comment about the fans being unfairly critical of the players - as Jimbo says that's not true. But as a fan, and as a bloke, I think that comment comes out of frustration for Burto. So we all move on, and we hopefully get 3 points on Saturday and the job is done for this season. Then we can all have a beer and chill out :-)
