Marske striker Jamie Owens hopes he will be jumping for joy when the Seasiders play Marine in the FA Cup
Marske United manager Carl Jarrett is hoping to celebrate Non League Day with a giant-killing in the FA Cup against Marine.
Marske have a big task on their hands against the EvoStik Premier League side to reach the second qualifying round but Jarrett feels that, with a big crowd behind them, his side can pull off a shock against a club who reached the third round proper back in 1992.
“Saturday is a big day for all sorts of reasons. The FA Cup is a fantastic competition to be part of, while it’s also Non League Day,” he said.
“Middlesbrough aren’t playing this weekend because of the international weekend, so it would be great if a few of their fans would come along and support us.
“New fans are assured of a warm welcome, and enjoy our good facilities.
“The FA Cup means so much to clubs at our level. There is £3,000 prize money at stake, plus the chance to enjoy the spotlight.”
Jarrett went on a spying mission to Marine on Monday to watch them in league action against Warrington.
He said: “They’re a strong team, but I didn’t come away from the game fearing them.
“We can beat them, but our players will need to be at their best.
“I know where their threats are, and we’ll have to combat those, but in turn we’ve also got good players who can cause them problems.
“Marine will be a challenge, but if you want to do well in the FA Cup, then you have to win these sort of matches.”
Admission to Saturday's game is £6 for adults, £3 for Over 60s and £2 for Under 16s.
