Subject: FA CUP Breaking News

Ed Banger wrote:
It is a long story but here it goes. On Wednesday 19th we played Marske away, with our left back Gary Andison injured we played 18 year old Mark Pattison there who is a great prospect and a lovely lad but very quiet.
On Saturday morning 22nd our secretary Paul nicholson got a call from the NL secretary saying Mark was not registered and as a result we would lose 3 points and be fined £250.
Paul then realised that Mark was named as a sub in our FA cup game against CLS. Having checked the team sheet Paul found that Mark came on in the 89th minute. As a result the FA have kicked us out of the FA cup. Harsh but rules are rules.
The worst thing to happen through this is that our secretary Paul Nicholson is in bits and wants to resign. Paul is a very proud man it does not surprise me the way it has hit him. I would just like to say that the management and players are 100% behind him. We would be taking a even bigger blow than being kicked out the cup if we lost Paul.
One thought that came to my mind is that at least we were ubeaten in the FA cup this year. The only other team that can say that are the FA cup winners.  :x

The "offence" took place in the league game v Marske and the FA Cup game v Chester le Street.

Ah right OK fair enough. One year does anyone think we might go a year without teams getting points deducted? It's quite annoying

Its not the rules' fault is it, as much as its cost us we know we as a club dropped a genuine rick and expect like any other club would be, to be punished, i do personally think the £250 fine is excessive as its hardly a deterrent thats needed for a Genuine mistake, especially when clubs caught cheating the system were only fined £400, but i must stress its only a personal opinion and our clubs stance on this has been crystal clear from the day it happened, and if thats how much it is,then thats how much it is.

I agree with that comment, Les. I suppose it is there to stop clubs knowingly playing an unregistered player. How can anyone budget for mistakes and genuine oversights, though?
