On a bright sunny day we went to Moor Park to take on unbeaten Chester le Street. Craig Tate was captaining Whickham on his last appearance before emigrating to Australia. Everyone at Whickham FC would like to wish 'Tatey' a safe journey an a happy and prosperous stay on the other side of the world (I'm sure he'll be back some day).
Whickham started brightly and took the lead on 3 minutes when Sam Macintosh won the ball about 20 yards out from goal and hit an unstoppable shot past the Chester keeper. Whickham were looking good for their lead. Dan Streibelt went down with an ankle injury on 28 minutes and had to be replaced by Paul Cavanagh, Dan looks a doubt for our home game on Tuesday coming against Birtley. On the hour Snapper was upended on the edge of the Chester box in a central position. Keith Foster moved forward from defence and while the Chester keeper was lining his wall up, Keith asked the ref if he could take a quick one, he must have ok'd it, as Keith place a shot in off the far post to make it 2-0. The rest of the second half was pretty even as both teams tried to take a grip of the game. Craig Tate was replaced on 69 minutes by Joe Danquah after taking a knock. Chester pulled a goal back 10 minutes from the end when a cross cum shot went through the Whickham defence and Nixon at the back post had a simple tap in. Full time 2-1 to WFC

Team: Scott Cresswell. Kris Allen. Graham McTaggart. Jordan Lee. Keith Foster (goal). David Rayner. Jordan Lartey. Craig Tate (c) (Joe Danquah). Andy Snaith. Dan Streibelt (Paul Cavanagh). Sam MacIntosh (goal)

Unused subs: Craig Rook, Scot Goldsmith-Scott and Kris Holmes.

 Great win and although a bit of a roller coaster start we'll take 7 points from 5 games, especially as there was a few tough ones in there.

See you all Tuesday

Fantastic performance on Saturday. Scott made a couple of heroic saves, the back four dealt comfortably with nearly everything Chester threw at them, the midfield covered lots of ground and looked dangerous on the break and Snapper worked tirelessly up front against two very tall centre backs. Special mention to Sam, who was excellent throughout and capped his performance with a superb curling finish for the first goal. When he plays like this he looks a very good player at this level.
