Jarrow FC V Brandon United
The Official Northern League Div 2

After 6 minutes, Jason White fired over the top for the visitors in early exchanges but the game and a controversial decision which changed the came for Jarrow. With just 10 minutes on the clock, a tackle by Dean Martin on full back Michael Searby on the touch line was judged an red card by referee Charnock. Martin closed down the LB, tackled and tangled legs, when rising to close the loose ball was adjudged to have stamped on the Brandon player.

The home side needed to reorganise with Max Kirkham dropping into central midfield for Martin. The pressure started to build a great last ditch block from youngster Sam Attewell after 17 minutes prevented a shot from the dangerous Vincent Gash opening Brandon's account. This was followed with an unsuccessful penalty appeal from Brandon United when Jason White fell in the box. Gash then hit the post on 20 minutes and scored an offside goal after 28 minutes. The home side were having to defend against the extra man of the visitors but Sam Attewell had an good chance to head the opener for Jarrow after 35 minutes but the ball went wide of the visitors left post from a well delivered Jonathan Hirst free kick from the right side. Tom Goundry then had a good chance for Brandon but fired wide after 37 minutes as the home side absorbed the pressure trying and tried to hit Brandon on the counter attack.

With 53 minutes gone a throw in from Featherstone was headed on at the front post by skipper Jordon Mellish and the bouncing ball was attacked first by Max Kirkham who lashed the ball past Kris Carr into the roof of the net from 6 yards for the opener for the home side against the run of play. Much of the play was in the Jarrow half with some excellent saves by Gary Frater. Hirst brought out a good save from Carr on the counter attack on 70 minutes, and Sam Attewell again put in last ditch tackle to stop Gash again from scoring a certain goal. The first sub for Jarrow after 77 minutes was Josh Allan for Max Kirkham and almost immediately Allan needed to clear the ball of the line. A further change saw George Simpson replace the hard working Grant Pressling after 80 minutes up front and he had an good chance to score after 83 minutes but it was saved by Carr. The home side were defending well and after 85 minutes Gary Frater made an great double save to prevent Gash scoring. Frater made a saved from a 18 yard snap shot through bodies which went straight up in the air, he quickly got to his feet to punch it to safety. After 92 minutes the final sub was Nick Little for Jonathan Hirst as referee brought the game to a close after 8 minutes of added time. Jarrow took the points in a strong defensive display against Brandon United after playing 80+8 minutes with 10 men.
