JARROW V DURHAM CITY EBAC NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISON 1 SATURDAY 5TH AUGUST 2017
The first game in the Northern league for Jarrow started brightly with a few good chances for the home side with Nick Quinn going close to scoring . Durham didn’t really have many first half clear cut chances but did have a lot of possession . The game was tight throughout with Jarrow just shading the possession but Durham looked dangerous on the flanks

The second period saw the visitors bringing an good save out of home keeper Gary Frater and then after 65 mins Josh Allen looked certain to score for Jarrow when he nearly got past the visitors keeper Joe Wilson , but Wilson recovered the ball at the strikers feet. Another good chance fell to Peter Kane on the left side of the box but he dragged his shot past the right hand post after 70 mins .
Disaster struck on 79 mins when referee Carruthers awarded an hotly disputed penalty to Durham city with keeper Gary Frater in the air collecting an high ball collided with Josh Thompson on the left of the area . The spot kick was dispatched by Bradley Hird to make it 1-0 to the Citizens . Jarrow introduced two forward subs Kai Elliott and Grant Pressling and after 85 mins an corner was not cleared and defender Jordon Mellish was fouled in the box, the referee awarding an penalty to Jarrow much to the disbelief of Durham bench . The kick was taken by Jonathan Hirst and saved by Joe Wilson however the referee ordered an second penalty for encroachment , Hirst took the second penalty which was again saved by Wilson and cleared with jubilation from the Citizens . The final frantic minutes saw long balls by Jarrow without managing to get the equalizing goal they really deserved a share of the points in an game they missed several clear cut chances in front of an good crowd of 165 .
