Killingworth welcomed North shields to West Moor for a Bay Plastics challenge cup fixture looking to make it 3 wins on the bounce. Killy had previously faced shields away just a few weeks ago in which the away side triumphed 3 goals to 1.

It looked as though this could be a different story on a glorious day as the sun beamed down it was Shields who starters the brighter applying early pressure to the Killy back line with two tricky wingers and good centre forward play from the visiting Jasper. North Shields took the lead just 11 minutes in from a set play after a free kick was Floated into the box and slammed home by a visiting player.

The next 20 minutes saw both teams share equal possession with no real chances at either end. The home side dug deep to get themselves back into the game and started to find pockets of space to stretch a tiring Shields defence. The returning Chris Tate started to see more of the ball and linked well with Bamborough and Henderson before seeing off the challenges of two shields players before arrowing a perfect ball to Hamilton who proceeded to superbly chip the away custodian, much like his finish last week to bring the scores level on 36 minutes.

36 mins - Killingworth town 1-1 North Shields

Killingworth fully deserved their equaliser and we're now dominating the game and Chris Tate once again sent a ball forward that the shields defence simply couldn't deal with and found the ever lively Howe who left the opposition for dead before lofting the ball over the advancing keeper.

40 mins - Killingworth town 2-1 North Shields

Killingworth once again won the ball back and looked relentless going forward looking to exploit the holes in the shields defence and did this once again on 42 mins when Howe once again out paced the back four racing through one on one with the visiting keeper before calmly slotting the ball home to widen the home sides advantage.

42 mins - Killingworth town 3-1 North Shields

Killingworth went into the break still looking to kill the game off as the front two of Howe and Hamilton backed up by Tate tormented the Shields back line who were happy to hear the ref blow for half time.

HT - Killingworth town 3-1 North Shields

Killingworth began the second half the same way they ended the first attacking the away goal from all angles and their efforts were once again rewarded 7 minutes into the second period when Howe completed his hat trick. Henderson was sent racing through on goal after some neat play by Hamilton and his cross was tucked away by Howe once again.

52 mins Killingworth town 4-1 North Shields

Killingworth continued to keep the ball well which clearly frustrated the visiting management team who proceeded to damage the home dugouts which were built by voulenteers, at quite a cost to the club. Back to matters on the pitch, after a scramble in the away area the ball fell invitingly to skipper Chris Scott who shot just over from around 15 yards. 2 minutes later it was almost 5 for Killy when Howe rose well to head just over the crossbar. With 25 minutes remaining the home side were still looking to add to their tally when against the run of play the away side grabbed a lifeline. The visiting no.9 was able to see off two Killingworth challenges before sending an unstoppable strike plummeting into Whitmore's top left corner from 25 yards giving the home keeper no chance at all.

68 mins Killingworth town 4-2 North Shields

The didn't seem to effect the home side who continued to press and Henderson came close before Fyvie found Henderson once again who played in Dixon who looked to have opened his account bending the ball past the keeper 1 on 1 only for it to agonisingly rebound off the post and back into play. A minute later it was almost five once again when Bamborough flashed a free kick just wide.

With 5 minutes remaining Whitmore's had to be alert in the home goal when a well worked shields set play found a player un-marked who headed low but the home keeper displayed great reactions to get down low and hold the ball from close range. Straight back up the other end Chris Scott once again came close when his header was deflected just wide of the target.

in the final stages Killy still looked to widen the gap when a lofted ball into the area was brilliantly took down by the impressive Tate who managed to get a shot off which was well saved by the away keeper, the rebound fell to Dixon who's first time effort was sent over the bar. There was still time for Howe to almost add another when he once again broke free and chipped the on rushing goalkeeper, much similar to his early effort but the Shileds defender got back just in time to clear the ball off the line.

FT - Killingworth town 4-2 North Shields

Good game on Saturday. Shields the much better side for 30 mins. We were excellent for an hour afterwards. Bit of a silly incident when the away assistant manager decided to smash a water bottle off the dugout after our goal. But not to worry, a decent game, and I think Shields can expect a high finish as have some cracking individuals.

Thanks,

Dean
