Killingworth town 1- 0 Whitley Bay A

We welcomed Whitley bay to a damp west moor for our third league game of the season. Killingworth were able to recall captain Chris Scott along with Scott Bamborough and John Percival after missing the midweek game with Percy Main. There was also starts for Cameron Fyvie and Leighton Hopper after impressing from the bench during the last fixture.

Killingworth started brightly straight from the off and took control of the game with slick passing on a slippery surface. It wasn't long before killingworth had their first shot on goal in the 8th minute with Hammond in the away goal alert to the danger. Killy continued to take the game to Whitley controlling most of the possession with the back 5 staying alert to everything Whitley had to offer in the first 25 minutes. Killingworth continued to probe with Leighton Hopper proving a real handful for the Whitley defence dominating in the air and holding the ball up superbly for his ever livey strike partners Bowman and Waugh. It was that man Waugh once again who opened the scoring for Killy, a well timed pass from Bamborough from the middle of the park set Waugh away at goal. Waugh brilliantly took the ball in his stride and with his left foot lashed home a pin point finish straight into the Whitley net from a seemingly impossible angle.

28 Mins - 1-0 (LEE WAUGH)

This seemed to wake up the visitors with Whitley now seeing more of the ball after being on the back foot for the first half an hour and it was Chris Bell who came close for the visitors with a piledriver from the edge of the box which went narrowly wide. The final moments of the first half saw killy once again take control playing some fantastic football looking to add a second but the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Whitley started well out the blocks in the second period and won a flurry of corners which were dealt with comfortably by the strong killingworth defence. Daniel Regan in the home goal was alert to snuff out any real threat to his goal. Once again it looked like Killy were denied a blatant penalty for handball which could have sealed the game after the visiting player produced a save Pat Jennings would have been proud of. This didn't seem to bother the home side as they continued to use the ball well and a great move down the left ended with mcbride bending a great effort towards goal which rattled the far post. Hopper continued to bully the away defence and was denied a goal when the acrobatic Hammond produced a great save from a powerful header that seemed destined for the back of the net. Hammond was once again called into action saving smartly with his feet after great build up once again down the left from substitute Ruddick. Killy were looking for the killer blow but had to be wary as the away side always looked dangerous on the break.

In the final staged Killy once again forced a save from Hammond from a set play from which Whitley broke away but the impressive Scott, Whitfield, Dixon and Fyvie were on hand to deal with the threat.

Final score 1-0

A great performance from Killingworth who dominated the majority of the game against a very good Whitley bay side with bundles of attacking talent. This Wednesday we travel to North Sheilds athletic with a 6:15 kick off.

TEAM: Regan, Dixon, Scott (c), Whitfield, Fyvie, McBride, Bamborough, Percival, Bowman, Waugh, Hopper.

SUBS: MacGregor, Ruddick (75), Bell, Henderson, Hamilton.
