We welcomed newly promoted Newcastle uni to west moor for our first game of the new season which turned out to be an entertaining no score draw.

Killy will feel hard done by after having a goal chalked off for what look like a very soft foul on the visiting keeper with the referee even after the game admiting it should probably have stood. Killy were also denied one blatant penalty for handball which left the visiting bench stunned at how it was not awarded.

This aside, killingworth started brightly with the pacey bowman and Henderson on the flanks always looking a threat. The back 5 stood firm and dealt with every long ball the uni had to offer instructed by the vocal Regan in the home goal. Both sides had chances in the first half with the woodwork hit at both ends. The visiting keeper was forced into a smart save from a Henderson free kick. Not long after the visiting defender somehow got back and diverted bowmans clever chip over the keeper away from goal with a super human diving header which looked like something out of free Willy.

0-0 at the break with both teams impressing the uni started well from the off and put Killy under pressure but the home defense impressed again dealing with each threat well. The Killy midfield kept ticking and making things happen and soon after the away keeper was again called into action making a fine save down low to his left and then again was at full stretch to deny Lee Waugh. Killy looked the most likely to break the dead lock but the impressive Liam Atkin from the uni marshaled his defense well to frustrate the home side. In the closing stages Regan was called upon to make a smart save from a move on the break which meant the score finished level at 0-0.

A promising start for killy who always looked in control and will be unhappy with just a point against a decent side who will certainly impress in the first season back in the premier division.

Next we welcome Percy Main to west moor this coming Wednesday with a 18:15 kick off.
