Match Report: Stockton Town completed a league double over Willington with a 2-1 victory away from home on Wednesday night.

Willington welcomed Michael Brown, Jason White and Captain Chris Storey back into the side that was swept aside at Team Northumbria with Goalkeeper Declan Middleton and Reece Brown also coming into the starting line-up.

Those to make way were Will Preston, Michael Bell, Isam Mohamad, Graham Stephenson and Luke Cowie who had an injury.

With Storey leading the defence and Luke Black putting in an accomplished display at right back Willington looked far more solid than recently although Stockton did pose a threat, creating the better chances in the first half but failing to take them.

Indeed, it was Willington who took the lead when Storey played an inch perfect pass over the top of the Stockton defence for Michael Brown to latch onto and rifle clinically past the keeper.

Stockton continued to carry a threat throughout the half and got back on terms when their number 11 went down under the challenge of Rhys Brown and the referee pointed to the spot with Coulthard making no mistake from 12 yards.

Half time: Willington 1-1 Stockton Town

The second half continued to be an eagerly contested encounter with both sides looking to take the three points.

Michael Brown came close to getting his and Willington’s second of the game when he was quickest to react to a shot coming back off the keeper who reacted smartly to smother the second attempt.

Brown was always a threat and was at the heart of the action again when he was brought down just outside the area by the keeper as he rushed off his line with the referee deeming it to be a yellow card offence.

Stockton also had chances to take the lead with Bailey twice making terrific last ditch challenges to keep the scores level. They did eventually go in front when a corner made it through to the back post for Coulthard to claim his second of the night.

Willington worked hard to get back on terms but it was Stockton who nearly extended their lead in the closing stages when Middleton pulled off a superb reaction save to keep the score at 2-1.

Full Time: Willington 1-2 Stockton
