Match Report: Fans favourite Jason White marked his first game back at Willington since re-signing in the summer with a hat-trick to lead the side to a 4-3 victory over Darlington RA on Wednesday night.

Willington made three changes from the side that was convincingly beaten at Stockton with Michael Weston returning from injury and Michael Brown and Jason White getting the nod up front.

White was superb in his first spell at Willington and wasted no time picking up from where he left off, cutting in from the left channel and finding the bottom corner from a narrow angle to give Willington the lead ten minutes in.

Willington were the better side early on but Darlington, playing their first match of the new season, grew into the game and equalised through a deflected effort from the edge of the area.

They took the lead shortly after when a mistake in the Willington defence gave the visitors possession in their penalty area and they took the chance clinically to go in 2-1 up at the break.

HT: Willington 1-2 Darlington RA

Willington started the second half brightly as they pushed for an equaliser without creating many clear cut chances but won a number of set pieces around the Darlington box. This eventually paid dividends when Graham Stephenson headed home from a Jason White free kick to pull the home side level.

It was Darlington who struck next when a free kick from the right found their left winger unmarked at the back post and he made no mistake, heading home from six yards.

Willington were gifted a route back into the game when the ball struck the arm of a Darlington defender in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. It looked a very harsh decision but White made no mistake from the resulting spot kick, sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 3-3.

Both sides continued to look for the victory and Darlington twice went close before Willington were awarded a second penalty minutes before the end when the Darlington full-back appeared to clip the heels of Stephenson as he made his way into the area. White, impressive throughout, kept his cool to complete his hat-trick and give Willington their first victory of the new season.

FT: Willington 4-3 Darlington RA
