Am watching at home with my 2 brothers, our Jamie and a few of his mates with a couple of cans, for the same reason as sms, we dont like watching live footy in the Bug (the Edinburgh next to our ground).

Well, we lost on penalties again. What's new?

Apart from the first 20 minutes when we actually played football, it was a good solid defensive display. Now all we need is someone to put the ball in the net when we get a break.

Bring on the World Cup!

Roll on the world cup? England have been far too defensive throughout the tournament. Roy Hodgson needs to start looking at the quality players in the Championship. There are too many foreigners in the Premiership that have limited the amount of quality English players.

Looking in the Championship? Come on now, it isn't quite that bad.

I was disappointed he didn't get to put Defoe on for the very average Rooney.

As much of a problem as mediocre foreign players taking up space is available players preferring to go on holiday than go on stand-by- how pathetic. Sooner a wage cap comes in, the better. These unpatriotic egotists are obviously ridiculously overpaid.

Well thats it out on penalties again and players like Young Welbeck Milner Rooney were just not good enough Gerrard Terry getting on a bit time for a few changes I think even though Gerrard was our best player overhall

Italy battered us. Technically they were in a different class. We couldn't get out of our own half and if the Italians could finish they would have won long before the penalty shootout that we lost again! Hodgson did what was expected of him with quarter-final quality players but we need to learn to keep hold of the ball, and his negative tactics are never going to work against any of the major opposition.

The defending was decent but we did virtually nothing as an attacking force. There really does need to be a change in the way english players are coached, so young players with technical qualities come through the academy systems, rather than foreigners all the time. As for Pirlo, brilliant doesn't come close!

England has 92 professional league clubs. Why have we not produced a talent like Gazza over the 25 years since he burst on the scene.

Why since 1970 has a small country like Holland have produced far more world class outfield players than us.

Its about time the FA took the bull by the balls and got Johann Cruyff or even German coaches in to develop a national strategy on training youngsters to at least be proficient at kicking the ball with both feet (I hate it when commentators telling us that it was on a players wrong foot).

^what he said. If we want to do well in international tournaments, were clearly not going the right way about it.

I think a quarter final exit for England is quite fair. We were never going to win the tournament on heart and 'never say die' alone.

It was obvious were a few steps behind the best teams. But it does show the differences between the British game and the rest of Europe's. Our inability to hold the ball and dictate play is plain to see.

I've largely supported Hodgson so far. But I will say, that if I was Defoe, I'd be upset that I didn't get more of a run-out over a disappointing Rooney and Young.

I watched 120 minutes of the game in an Iranian cafe (in Twickenham, not in Iran). The mixture of support was interesting, mainly England except for one guy who was shouting for Italy on the incomprehensible grounds that he supported Spain, and some women in burkas whose allegiance was hard to tell.
Two doors down, though, there was an Italian cafe; much more voluble. As I nipped home over the road for the penalties, from it there was a lot of how lucky England had been in Chico Marx accents. As I went past again after the penalties, there was dancing in the streets.

Isn't that what St George' Park is going to about at Burton. It's just that we are 25 years behind everyone. To be honest in Holland, what else is there to do apart from smoke weed, make clogs or farming....They have got to be good at something.

I finally agree with Sepp Blatter, we need to decide a game by something other than penalties, cos we may never win a penalty shoot out again.
Why couldn't it be decided with a good old fashioned game of Darts, England bringing on super sub Phil Taylor onto the oche marked out in the middle of the pitch. It would only take them a couple of minutes to bring on a board....come on Fifa. :D

I think a few of them Dutch players had been having a toke at half time, going off their performances.

Outclassed by the Italians they played us off the park, disappointed in Ashley Young's performances, would have liked to have seen more of Defoe and Walcott. Roll on the world cup!

Agree with most of the above, particularly those urging us to follow foreign models of success- I believe we copied some Australian ideas with our cricket coaching and we're now number one in the world.

Perhaps the £757 million spent on rebuilding Wembley should've been put into development?

But the Premier League is the best in the world blah blah blah, why do we want to watch tippy tappy stuff when we have the blood and thunder classicos of West Brom v Stoke City.

Either the Premier League mentality changes or we stay the way we are at International level. You can't have it both ways.
