It's unacceptable that referees are able to influence games in such a ridiculous manner. Chalking off THREE perfectly good goals and not awarding a certain pen, when you lose to a better team you can sort of accept it but to have a convincing performance embarrassed with the man in the middle INVENTING decisions it's a disgrace. The Chilly goal that nearly took his neck off but was given as handball was worse than shocking, not even their players appealed and the referee was unsighted. What is the point in spending time raising funds, promoting the club, getting the players down for training and turning up for games when the whole ocassion is spoilt by an absolute spanner. DISGUSTED!!!

Totally agree, the ref was an absolute joke last night, the language from the Esh No:11 was unacceptable and the ref didn't even have a word with him, if the league are trying to stamp out bad language the refs surely have a part to play as well.

I know it's tough to take Andy but these things, as you know, happen at all levels of football. Monday at Goodison for example. The rights and wrongs of the referees decisions are debated all over the country everytime a game is played. The key now is to put it behind us and make sure Saturday we don't let it affect us.

I see what you're saying Wise Man but there is a difference between making bad decisions (which can be excused) and making 'decisions' based on events that didn't happen and that are a figment of the imagination. Never thought I'd say this but that ref was worse than the one at Birtley away last season and he was unfit to referee a game of Subbuteo.

Not sure but I think we have had him already once this season and he didn't impress me then. I thought he was inconsistent and got the big decisions wrong unfortunately for us. Maybe next time they might go in our favour !!

Lets be honest Northallerton deserved something from the game, if not all 3 points. However Northallerton did miss a few chances. The penalty shout in the first 2 minutes was maybe a penalty. There were 3 disallowed goals in the first half and 2 were easy decisions, the 3rd handball was difficult to see but the referee was in place to see it, but the first was offside and the second a blatant push on the keeper. Emson missed a chance when he hit the bar first half too. Second half the referee didn't really have any major decisions to make. Northallerton had all of the ball and looked dangerous on crosses into the box.

The shape of the balls were more of a concern

Not quite Andy 959, take your rose tinted glasses off for a while, firstly your not serious about the player who prodded the first goal being offside, it was more than a yard and the lino disallowed it not the ref, the other two were debateable and the ref gave what he thought was right, we have had many of those decisions go against us, particularly last season, you have to accept the decisions and not make them your excuse, top and bottom line Esh defended well and broke well from the back, you sometimes get them games when you dont always get what you feel you should have done, but your lot blamed the referee instead of making a distinct impression on the game and making possession pay, you failed in that respect and came away empty handed but to blame the referee is crass and tantamount to avoiding the truth!
I think you lot will be there or there abouts but believe me there will be more experiences like last night, try not to blame the ref for your own shortcomings, thats why you heard little umbrage from our players towards the ref, been like that all this season, a single booking is the evidence to that fact.
Good luck for rest of season, except when you visit 'God's Little Acre'

Our shortcomings were largely due to the Reffing decisions, especailly in the first half. I agree the first was off side, but the second and third no-goals were very debatable to say the least, there was nothing wrong with Chilli header, and had that stood it would have put a totally different complexity on the second half. I didnt see the penalty appeal, but according to all the fans behind the goal, it was a stone waller !!

I quite understand your defence of the Referee, you got out of jail with dodgey decisions and a spectacular own goal. Other than that Esh would have come away with nothing, and couldnt have complained.

Don't normally get involved in this kind of tit for tat but I feel compelled to chuck in my two-penneth for what its worth...

I think the referee was very lenient throughout the game and other officials would have been more whistle happy and certainly got the cards out - the opportunities were certainly there. However he got the vast majority of big game changing decisions correct...and we all know that viewpoint changes depending on which side of the fence you stand on!

The game can be summed up in one simple sentence...'Plan A didn't work, no plan B'.

Best of luck for the rest of the season, I'm sure you'll do very well with the aerial threat your side contains.

The post match bait was also first rate 8)

Disagree. I would change that to 'he got the major decisions wrong and these changed the game.'

Re the Chilly disallowed goal. It didn't hit his arm, therefore it was not a handball offence. For the referee to give it as a handball offence must mean he THINKS it hit his arm. Once there is that moment of doubt there are 3 options - give the goal, disallow the goal and award a free kick for handball, or consult your assistant. The referee gave the free kick. He either saw something that didn't happen or invented the decision.

The player in question said it never hit his hand or arm, it was a clear goal. There was no way the Ref could see properly, and no appeals from Esh to be fair. He made a decision and got it wrong, it happens, but is still a bitter pill to swollow under the circumstances
