A thrilling Redcar derby ended all square as both Newmarket and Town remain unbeaten at the top end of the North Riding Football League Premier Division. Michael Dowse opened the scoring for Newmarket, inside 15 minutes, before Nico Weatherald replied, just after the half hour. However, just before half-time, Danny Puckrin’s corner floated in direct, to restore the Newmarket lead. Town, who defeated Teesside League champions Boro Rangers, last week, in the division’s first-ever game, ensured a share of the spoils though, early in the second half. Andy Porrit’s 30-yard free-kick lobbed the keeper and made it 2-2.

St Marys kept up their strong start as Nunthorpe were unable to bounce back from a heavy defeat at Redcar Newmarket on the opening day. Chris Peacock’s brace and Andrew Calvert’s goal were enough to see the Yarm side race into a three-goal first-half lead, with Andrew Lambert’s strike and Thomas Atkinson’s penalty helping Nunthorpe force some pressure, after the interval.

Grangetown have now notched seven goals in two games as they forced a high-scoring draw at Guisborough United, with last week’s hat-trick hero Michael Pickles, Stuart Roberts and Keith Nyatsungo on target. Guisborough led 3-1 thanks to Lewis Reeve’s hat-trick, only to be denied the win two minutes from time.

BEADS got underway in another high-scoring clash, leaving Yarm & Eaglescliffe still chasing their first points of the season. Michael Shellard’s hat-trick proved decisive for the hosts, despite Harry Noble replying with a brace of his own.

Meanwhile, Fishburn Park took the bragging rights over nearby Staithes Athletic, in Whitby, on Saturday. Ex-Whitby Town striker Jake Faichney netted both goals for Andy Park and Mark Waterfield’s men, with both teams playing their first game of the season. Attacking midfielder Sam Richardson took Fishburn’s man of the match award.

Thornaby Dubliners are also underway as they edged another great game for the neutrals. Gary Mitchell’s two strikes and an own goal were enough to cancel out a brace from Luke Larkin, for Billingham Town Reserves.

Stockton West End bounced back from defeat by Billingham Town last week, with a win at fancied Boro Rangers. Sean O’Brien netted twice, with Ben Turner also on target. Coy Blake and Jamie Bellamy replied for Rangers.

The North Riding First Division kicked off, this weekend and there were contrasting fortunes for the two Stokesley clubs. Stokesley Sports Club Reserves were indebted to Charlie Brady, who netted the winner, five minutes from time, in a 2-1 victory at newly-formed Lingdale Village. Sam Pears had put the visitors ahead, midway through the first half, before a defensive error yielded Lingdale’s leveller through Rob Bennett, on the stroke of half-time. Village ended the match with ten men after Connor Gazzard was sent off early in the second half.

Stokesley Armstrong Richardson, meanwhile, fell to defeat at home to Redcar Athletic Reserves. It looked comfortable at the break for Athletic, after goals from Sam Thompson and McCorie Carmichael. However, the hosts roared back through Matty Gill and Joe Howe for 2-2, only for Carmichael to win it for Redcar, with his second goal, a minute from time.
