Boro Rangers signalled their intentions for the upcoming season with a 7-1 demolition of fellow North Riding Football League Premier Division side, St Marys, on Saturday.

After a goal-less first half, Rangers flew out of the traps with a Matty McQueeney hat-trick, two goals from Jonny Squires and one each for Karl Barry and Jack Guy completing an emphatic victory at Conyers School.

Another Premier side in the goals were Fishburn Park, who thumped Beckett Football League Sleights 6-0 at Broomfield Park.

Guisborough United completed their pre-season preparations, last Thursday, with a 4-2 win over Eskvale and Cleveland League champions Great Ayton Royals. Dean Wilson (2), Lewis Reeve and Scott Matthewman scored the Guisborough goals.

Meanwhile, Redcar Newmarket staged a remarkable recovery after trailing 4-1 at Ripon City, on Saturday. Goals from Chris Hodgson, Chris Varney and Dan Puckrin saw the top tier team salvage a thrilling draw. However, there was disappointment for Billingham Town Reserves who went down 5-1 at Shildon Railway

First Division Whitby Fishermens drew 4-4 at Beckett League Kirkbymoorside, last Thursday, while second-tier Redcar Athletic Reserves scooped a shock 2-1 win over Premier Division Staithes, thanks to goals from Richie Playforth and Adam Hartnett, on Saturday. Finally, Stokesley Armstrong Richardson suffered a 12-1 reverse to neighbours Stokesley Wanderers on Sunday morning.

This coming weekend sees the launch of the brand-new North Riding Football League. The action gets underway at 1.45pm on Saturday with a special curtain-raiser at Redcar Town where Teesside League champions Boro Rangers are the visitors.

Then at 2pm, the rest of the top tier games see Guisborough United host St Mary's 1947, Redcar Newmarket visit Nunthorpe Athletic, Stockton West End have a home clash with Billingham Town Reserves, while Grangetown Boys Club visit Yarm & Eaglescliffe.

I know Boro Rangers have ambitions to progress up to the EBAC NL. Hopefully they can get the required ground developments done this season.
