Murton 2 v 2 Sherburn

Sherburn turned out the seven dwarf's, and four midgets at k/o...............

Only kiddin, big, physically strong and powerfull in body and in the tackle and very determined to prove they a match for anyone....

Murton went ahead twice and had a man sent off in a very eventfull match which saw a refereeing substitution, due to injury, but there were "those" who said because he was being assesed and only give a yellow for an blatant ist half elbow (I was not close enough to judge if that was the case) it was an easy way out, for me the ref did seem to be injured... that or had a stone in his shoe, as he limped back out of the dressing rooms....

Sherburn to their credit certainly played to their strength's and caused the Murton back line all sort's of problems, whilst at the same time Murton (especially second half) passed the ball around very well...

With Murton 2-1 up the game hinged on what most said was a dubious penalty descision from the sub ref .. again difficult for me too judge from my position........

Specsavers apointment for me  and more finishing practice for Murton

Brandon Reserves 0 Brandon British legion 10

An entire side out injured or on holiday meant we did the best we could with the 13 lads we had. Unfortunately it isn't just about numbers, it's the positions they play as well. We had 6 wingers and 2 keepers in our 13 tonight. We did pretty well to keep it at 0-0 until 35 mins. Then yet another hamstring pull to one of our centre halves and another hamstring to a midfield player and an ankle injury to our striker come centre half meant our sub goalie had to play up front and we were really down to 10 men near the end. No complaints though, Legion were the better side and created more even in the first 35 minutes.
That is now six hamstring pulls or tears out of the clubs 42 senior players already.

The premiership players complain if they have to play three games in eight days. Some of the Alliance league players are playing as much as seven games in nine days.

Too much football at the start of the season when players pick up injuries, go on holiday etc is just no good for the game. No wonder we are all losing players and I haven't known one secretary who has said he has never struggled to get a side out this season.

What we need are smaller leagues with less teams so that the players play once a week for their saturday team and once for their sunday team or at worst three times a week.

To be honest this is going to happen anyway because the cost of running a side plus the number of players dropping out of football means that there will be smaller leagues anyway as a number of teams fail to complete the season or do not start a new season.

OK...soap box back in the cupboard under the stairs. Onwards to saturday. Good luck to all.

It's a good point you raise Scribe, one which I have too voiced my concerns over on an earlier 'Monday Games' thread. The position of the league however is I imagine that they aren't really bothered about Sunday games - likewise the Sunday League isn't bothered about Saturday games.

The rumour floating around at the moment however is that there could be a further TWO teams folding over the coming weeks which will perhaps bring your ideas into action in any case, however considering that the amount of games in a short space of time is one of the factors which has contributed to both those sides struggling - perhaps the league should consider a different approach to scheduling games.

It may not happen and the two clubs may survive - I'm hoping so but we'll see.
