Murton 3 ..... Horden sportsmans 1

On a pitch which was the same as uppys big hair (could have done with a cut), we werent sure if some of our smaller players were going missing through lack of work rate or getting lost in the long grass.....
A good test against a young workmanlike peterlee premier side Horden sports.

Great turn out of twenty players all looking to impress, the game started with Murton passing the ball well and causing the Horden lads to use a lot of energy chasing the ball.

Probobally against the run of play and a sloppy defensive error, Murton went behind to a Gary Tuff goal.
Murton were encouraged to keep playing in the same manner and be patient, this paid divdends when Baz Turton was on hand to notch following some great build up play, Baz missed a one on one before Anrew Upperton added a second before half time as Murton built the best move of the game. Half time Murton 2-1 up.

Six changes were made at half time, with the lads coming in impressing as much as those whom had gone off and continued to pass and keep possesion, the Horden lads seemed to tire following their exursions, but to their credit never give up, and earned a penalty after their best move of the game.
Serial penalty saver Russ Blenkinsop kept the resulting penalty out and shortly after Micky Robinson added a third with a well headed goal. Murton again made changes giving the remaining subs a run and again the managment and supporters were impressed with their input.

A good work out for both sides and some impressive performances for our first friendly.

Durham Garden House 3 Coxhoe Atheltic 1

Good game played in a good spirit by two young teams. Goals for Garden House from Philip Hayes. Damon Elliss and Jack Carr. Good times ahead for both teams with big squads to pick from.

MURTON 4 - HARTLEPOOL TECH (HARTLEPOOL PREM LEAGUE) 0

Another good turn out of 20 players. Half time score was 0-0, with Murton just winning on points.
Tech drafted in a few players from Hartlepool champions Rovers etc. to make up their squad and were difficult to break down, although Murton did miss a few chances.

Second half and changes made, Craig Ellison got a brace, with Hayden Pace and Peter Crawford making it a 4-0 final scoreline as fitness told ......

Another pleasing performance from a nicely developing Murton squad....

Whickham 0 - Murton 0

Played on Gatesheads 3g pitch, Murton travelled to meet Northern league side Whickham with a squad of twelve, three of which were carrying knocks, with twelve players missing it was always going to be a tough test,

Those twelve did Murton AFC proud with a show of great spirit, fitness and effort. Both sides had chances they spurned to be fair, and Murton were unlucky to strike the bar, but all in all a good test, with the pleasing thing the high level of fitness the Murton lads showed and matched Whickham in most departments.

Another very tough test against Seaham in the East Durham cup on wednesday, when most players will be available for selection.......... Following todays performance, other than a couple of un-needed, un-wanted messers, the first eleven is going to be a difficult one to choose

Seaham red star v Murton afc

Murton faced northern league opposition for the second consecutive game, this time in the newly formed East Durham Cup....

Murton had players unavailable, and Seaham chose to rest a few showing the strength of their squad by still turning out a strong outfit...

Both sides knocked the ball about confidently early doors, but following good presure causing a defensive error Baz Turton was on hand to finish, as he lashed an unstoppable shot into the net... This seemed to stun their higher placed opponents and again Turton was hand to expertly send a brave diving header into the corner of the Seaham net following great wing play for 2-0..

Murton held their own for the first 30 until Seaham stormed back and forced a couple of good saves from the Murton keeper, but finnaly, got one back through slack marking and a goalkeeping miss judgement, they equalised following some great and tricky build up play for half time 2-2

Second half saw fewer chances with Murton's centre half pairing doing well to handle Red Stars current and changing forward line.

Murton's fitness seemed to stand up well and they finished with a flourish and had 3 good chances to win the game, but to the annoyance of the old man in the dug out (the tallest one) it was not to be....

Great performance and one to be proud of, but must realise against good opponents, mistakes/concentration lapses, cost goals.

Best of luck to Seaham, In the season to come...........

Durham Garden House 4 Newcastle Chemfica 5
Yet another good workout, shame we couldnt end a fantastic pre season with a win. On a positive note this is the most prepared we have ever been for a football season. All the squad have worked hard and they cant wait for August 4th(after 2 more training sessions). Goals today from Dan Kent(2) Mathew Huntley and Richard Elliss(header,, yes header).. Good luck to Chemfica for the season....

Coxhoe 0 Murton 7

Both sides entered the game with lots of players missing, so probobaly not a true reflection of what will happen when the teams meet in the league/cups

Murton's manager had to take the field at ko (because of lots of players still being the worse for wear due to our player Shane Obrian's wedding the previous day) and whilst reinfocments finished work.

Goal were scored by Lewis Turnbull hatrick, Baz Turton hatrick and Peter Crawford.

Another good workout for the players who attended, and some very pleasing performances especially from Turton, Turnbull, Hayden Pace and young Connor Williams who is from our u18s side and certainly didnt look out of place....

Also have to give a mention to our centre half/manager (because he said I had to) who rolled back the clock with a performance full of pace, agility and confidence :)

Thanks to The Coxhoe lads whom made us all feel very welcome, and if we get the same at all our away days in the league, is going to be an enjoyable season, hospitality wise :)

Murton v Peterlee

Second match for Murton in the east Durham cup started evenly. Murton gradually gained the initiative after gaining a penalty following a jinking run by Craig Elison, which Lewis Turnbull comfortly dispatched..

Peterlee turned up with twenty + players and looked dangerous and very quick on the break, but found the Murton attacks difficult to deal with, the Peterlee keeper pulled off several good saves which should have been converted.

Half time 1-0

Peterlee started the second half strongly but Murton increased their lead further, with goals from Davey Laight, another penalty from Lewis turnbull, following tricky play from Besty, and a marvelous chip from Craig Ellison for a 4-0 lead.

Peterlee to their credit never gave up and following changes to both sides they stormed back strongly in the last fifteen to pull two goals back.....

Lots of missed chances (from both teams) and a good turn out........

Best of luck to Peterlee in the new season........
