Nuneaton Town have begun the process of changing their name to Nuneaton Borough.

It starts with a consultation with fans, ( surely the fans will be in favour?) , and if all goes well it should be possible to change from the 2018-19 season

Farsley Celtic changed back not long since. Five years is supposed to be the rule before name changes allowed-that's last I read anyway. Nuneaton fans still shout/sing Boro' anyway.
Don't think there is much chance of us ditching the FC.

Still it just follows a long history of name changes.
Aldershot were called Aldershot Town originally then went to Aldershot FC then back to Town in 1992
Chester FC changed to Chester City then changed backed to FC when they went bust.
Wrexham were called Wrexham Olympic for a short time.
Tranmere Rovers were known as Belmont FC early on.
Torquay started as United then as Town then back to United!
Numerous others as well.

Yes the rule is 5 years.

You could change back to Halifax Town if that's what your fans want.

A couple of other examples of clubs going bust in the past, reforming as a phoenix club under a new name, then reverting back to the historical name of the old club are Maidstone United and Newport County.

Us at Darlington, even though we saved the club and exited administration and paid some of the debts, we were treated as if we went bust, and were forced to become in the FAs eyes a new club with a new name Darlington 1883. For us, those 5 years have elapsed and the fans voted overwhelmingly to revert to a playing name of Darlington, so we kick off next season with that name. Another example, if you like.

Our fans don't have any say in the name of the club at the moment -not been that much of an issue with supporters as a whole. As far I can remember the BOD wanted a fresh start anyway.

But as one fan said on our forum it gives us a distinction from our much larger next door neighbours Huddersfield Town. Not too fussed about the FC prefix so long as Halifax Town is in the title.

You could add Gateshead, BPA and Accrington Stanley to revived dead clubs.
